AJ made small talk with Miss.Wanda. It gave me a moment to collect my thoughts. After our appetizers arrived Miss.Wanda turned to me.

"So Layla, I understand you went to school for fashion and your talented, so I'm confused as to why you did not call me back."

"I don't think I'm right for the job" I blurted out.

"Why" Miss.Wanda asked calmly.

"I did not finish school."  I hoped she would decide to forget about me after that comment.

Miss.Wanda shrugged. "I never went."

I was scrambling for excuses. "I have 4 kids."

"3  of who are functioning teenagers" AJ said.

I wanted to kill him.

"How about this, you come work with me for a month, on a trial basis" Miss.Wanda said.

"I think that is a wonderful idea" AJ said.

These two were determined. "Ok one month" I said.

                               ............

"Oh shoot the girls." I darted out of bed. How did I let time get away from me.

"Ava, Hope, Destiny, Jocelyn" I called knocking on their doors.

I raced downstairs to make a quick breakfast for them. Granola and juice boxes would have to do.

Before I could raid the cupboards, the sight of AJ sitting at the bar stopped me.

"Good morning babe" AJ said before taking a sip of his coffee.

It clicked. AJ took the girls to school, because I have a job now.

"You sleep ok." AJ asked not looking up from his paper.

I smiled and joined him at the bar. "You heard me this morning."

AJ chuckled.

"Whatever."

I helped myself to a cup of coffee and sat across from AJ.

"I think I am going to take Miss.Wanda's offer for the permanent position."

"You should" AJ said.

After breakfast I kissed AJ bye for the day and headed for the office.

                               ...........

"Good morning everyone" I greeted.

The other designers mumbled their Hello's. This group of young people were rude, but that's ok I am here to work not make friends.

I sat at my desk and got to work.

"I said periwinkle does this look like periwinkle" Mrs. Wanda yelled.

Everyone looked toward her office where the yelling was coming from.

"My mistake Miss.Wanda" a voice said.

"Fix it!"

Everyone quickly looked away, when Roxy exited Miss.Wanda's office.

Roxy a 21 year old college graduate was Miss.Wandas new assistant.

Roxy pulled her phone our of her pocket.  She scrolled and looked frustrated.

"Dang it" Roxy murmured.

Everyone was staring at Roxy but I did not look away quick enough and she approached me.
