Chapter 6

"And we're here," Sam said wheeling Evelyn through the doors. "Banner, I have your patient for ya."

Bruce came around the corner with a smile on his face. "Hey Sam, hello again Evelyn. Ready to get started?" Evelyn nods and hands Bruce a cup of coffee and a plate with a donut on it. Bruce is taken aback by the gesture but smiles a huge smile as he takes the items. "Thank you".

With Sam's help, Evelyn got up and over to the medical bed to start scans. Sam waved goodbye as he headed to the conference room.

"Okay, Evelyn this will take some time so just relax and rest for a little bit. I'll be in the conference room with the team but F.R.I.D.A.Y will notify me if you need me. Just clap and a message will be sent right to me. I won't be gone long."

Evelyn smiled at the reassurance from Bruce. She stared at the top of the scanner; the humming noises and steady beat of the monitors made her eyes flutter. After a couple of minutes, she dozed off.

Tony had brought up the hologram of the Hydra base. "Okay, team we have another location. Scans show it is abandoned and looks like Hydra tried to destroy it themselves. We need to get any information we can.

"Full team?" Sam said looking between Tony and Steve "Last time you guys were short some hands that would've come in handy."

"Intel on this base seems solid to me, but I don't want to risk any surprises," Tony said looking at Steve who agreed. "Bruce, we need you on Support and to stay behind with Evelyn," Tony noticed Bruce's posture immediately relaxed.

"When do we leave?" Natasha asked still looking at the model

"Tonight - we want to make sure that any information is still there once we get there." Tony answered "I'm very interested in seeing what is left at the compound and why they tried to destroy it"

The team got up from the table to go to their apartments to prepare to leave for the mission in the evening. It would be a long trip even in the quinjet.

Bruce heads back to the lab relieved he is just on Support detail. Walking into the lab he looked at Evelyn's monitor and continued prep for Evelyn's surgery in the morning. From the monitors, the nanobots were helping her heal enough that he was confident enough to do a more localized surgery in the morning. Another day or two and her voice would be back and she'd feel better.

"Restrain her", the voice said as the soldiers shoved Evelyn onto the metal bed

The lights start to flicker and Bruce realizes that Evelyn has started to twitch like she's having a bad dream. As he walks over to her to check on her objects start to move as if they are being pushed away from her.

"Where is the iron? Good, now hold her down." The voice instructed the soldiers and Evelyn thrashed on the metal trying to break through "Now Ms. Pierce stay still we only want to do this once"

Bruce is panicked as he hurries to hold Evelyn's body down while trying to wake her. "Help!" he yells.

Steve and Bucky were looking over the folder with the mission plan in the common room when an alarm went off. "Miss Evelyn is in distress and Mr. Banner is requesting help", F.R.I.D.A.Y announced. They looked at each other and ran to the elevator.

"That's not my name," Evelyn says trying to get the soldiers off of her.

Steve and Bucky run to the lab getting there before the rest of the team. Bucky sees the lights flickering and objects moving but his eyes stop when he sees Banner trying to hold down Evelyn.

"She's having a nightmare! I can't wake her up," Bruce said looking at the two men

"Dear, we've talked about this", the voice said, his hand on the back of her neck and shoving her into the table.

Steve helps Bruce hold her down "Bruce do you have anything you can give her to knock her out?" he yells while both men struggle to hold the woman down and steady.

"Bucky, in the top drawer there's a syringe with a formula we had made for you. You have to administer it," Bruce yells

"No!", Evelyn screams as the hot iron brands her shoulder

Bucky grabs the syringe and puts it in the vein in her inner arm. "Sorry Doll," he says as he injects her.

The room calms almost instantly. Evelyn's eyes flutter open and meet Bucky's "James?" she says her voice barely a whisper and then she passes out.

The rest of the team arrived to see the aftermath. "What the hell?" Clint asks looking at the lab. Nothing is broken really but the place is a mess.

"Is she okay?!" Natasha asks, rushing to Evelyn's side and seeing Bruce take a syringe from Bucky and dispose of it.

"She had a nightmare," Steve said looking at the woman on the bed and then looking at his friend brush the hair out of her face.

Bruce decided to do the surgery while Evelyn was already knocked out with the serum. He didn't think it would be safe to put her under heavily two days in a row after all Evelyn had been through. It had been a quick surgery and now she was in her bed on the Medical floor. Bruce had requested F.R.I.D.A.Y. to monitor any and all vitals of the young woman and was hopeful pushing up the surgery would also help while the team was out.
