xiv - why do hearts still beat in the rain

pitter patter , pitter patter
as the gray raindrops cascade down past the window
rain is gray because it washed its own gleam away

[ the faded clothes of the pedestrians walking in slow rhythm , their boots flicking tiny droplets of ice into the oblivion of the sidewalk , where they ' d never be found again once the sun rose and they sank into the dull concrete leaving no trace or whisper because they thought they were free when they fell from the sky but the truth was ... they were lost ]

and he wondered again why hearts still beat in the gray rain
so feeble as the sound of the storm drowned them out
like the flickering lamps along the road as the sky cried and screamed for their light to fade away into dust and ashes , to leave it in darkness
their beat like raindrops that didn't even have a chance to slip between the cracks of the concrete before a sunbeam whisked them away into the abyss of the non existent

[ the boy ' s hazel gaze were so out of place in the dull rain , as he watched the people walk past , all in the same direction , but he wanted to go against the crowd . as he watched the rain fall , and out of the millions of raindrops falling down down down he wanted to go up ]

but just because you fall doesn ' t mean you ' re lost
and just because you fly doesn ' t mean you ' re free
