I had it coming now
you know, I really did
I worked for it so hard
then I went and broke my own heart
I thought it better to have had and lost
but how on Earth could I have known the cost
to still my heart's beating myself
Now, I just keep it on a dusty shelf
though the pain hasn't yet left me
This way, I can't lose it again, see
So I'm learning to be on my own
maybe once I'll feel like I've grown
Breaking out of those small confines
I now walk with a straighter spine
It was a lesson, and it was tough
but one day, I just might feel enough.
