1988, Portland, Oregon.

"You wouldn't be able to withstand an invasion from Disneyland, fighting like that!" David told Lana angrily. She was training in their garage, apparently David doesn't like her relationship with Kai so now he's taking it out on her through training.

Lana didn't even really know what her relationship with Kai was. The guy was hot and cold; some days he'd be in a great mood and others he'd be grumpy all day. They were good friends, Lana and Kai. Lana was even best friends with Josette, Kai's twin sister.

"Again!" David ordered as Lana punched the dummy they made from broken tires and bags of sand. How David made that thing, Lana had no idea. She shook her head at her Watcher's command, stepping away from the monstrous dummy.

"Why do you hate Kai so much?" She asked him, hands on her hips. David sighed heavily, picking up a sparring stick. He threw one to Lana and she caught it effortlessly.

"Kai's coven is the reason we came here in the first place; the Gemini Coven is a dangerous coven of witches and now you're dating one of them?!" David swung at Lana and she blocked the attack.

"I'm not dating Kai. And yes, I know that we came here for them. But how dangerous can they really be? We've been here for more than six months now and nothing has happened." Lana assured him, faking a blow to the left and then kicking his legs out from under him. She smirked; she's become good at this.

"Never lose focus, Slayer. Never underestimate your enemy and NEVER let your guard down, do you understand me?" David told Lana after getting up. He looked her in the eyes, which scared her. She nodded strongly; she wouldn't lose focus.

"Rosie's gonna wonder what we're doing down here for so long." Lana said, she then fell to the ground as David grabbed her stick when she tried going for another attack; he swept Lana's legs out from under her this time.

"Your sister shouldn't be here. It's not safe and it causes you to lose focus. You should tell her and your parents that moving to Portland isn't a good idea."

That caused Lana to grimace at the man. She loved her family, she wanted to be close to them. Rose has been visiting Lana for about two months now and Lana loved it. She missed her little sister.

"They're my family and I love them. I WANT them to move here." Lana told him.

"You may not be able to see this right now, Lana. But you are the Slayer. The only one of your kind out there. This is your job and your job alone. There's a reason we read of Slayers only, and not their families. The path your're destined to walk is a long, lonely and dark one." David threw down his sparring stick and Lana stood there, listening to him.

Even though sometimes David angered her, she knew that he was smart. David knew what he was talking about.

"You really love your family? Then don't pull them into this. Don't pull them into your life." David looked Lana in the eye. She had tears in her eyes. Her throat was burning and her breathing was ragged. She didn't want to be alone. She wanted her mother to make her breakfast in the morning; she wanted to be loved. She didn't want to walk her path alone.

"I'm going upstairs." She said shakily while gathering her things. Lana pulled on her white hoodie although it wasn't that cold, mainly trying to hide her bruises from her little sister.

"I'm sorry, Slayer. I know that I can be harsh at times. But I'm doing this to prepare you for what is yet to come." David saw Lana's glistening eyes and tried comforting her in his own, twisted way.
