This is a science fiction book, because the author wrote about creatures from another galaxy. The creatures have come to earth to kill the farandolae. The farandolae live in the mitochondria. Although mitochondria really do exist in our bodies, the farandolae were made up by the author.

The echthroi have come from another galaxy to kill the farandolae which exist in the mitochondria of people. Meg Murry is concerned about her little brother, Charles Wallace, when she finds out he has become deathly ill. She later learns the echthroi are the reason why Charles is ill. Charles sees dragons which are really a cherubim named Proginoskes. After Charles discovers the dragons, they meet Blajeny who tells them he is their teacher. Blajeny teaches Meg, Calvin, and Proginoskes how to defeat the echthroi. In order to save Charles Wallace's life, Meg needs to complete and pass three tests.

Meg Murry is Charles Wallace's big sister. She has to pass three tests in order to save him. She is in her freshmen year, in high school.

Charles Wallace is Meg Murry's little brother. When the echthroi come in from a different galaxy to attack Charle's farandolae, Charles becomes deathly ill. When he started his first year at school, he was bullied just because he was smarter than a 1st grader.

Calvin O'Keefe is Meg's friend. He needs to help Meg save her brother from his illness. He goes to the same school as Meg.

Proginoskes is a Cherubim who helps Meg and Calvin defeat the ecthroi, and who also saves Charles Wallace's life.

Mr. Blajeny is a teacher who teaches Proginoskes, Meg, and Calvin how to defeat the echthroi, and he also teaches them how to save Charles Wallace.

Mr. Jenkins was Meg's old principal. He is now Charles Wallace's current principle. He is Meg's first test. He saves her life from one of the ecthroi. Mr. Jenkin's life becomes endangered as a result of saving Meg's life. He is not as bad as Meg envisioned. He turned out to be quite nice.

I would rate A wind in the Door with 5 stars

I really liked this book. It has some interesting concepts. I like the way creatures of another galaxy were brought into our galaxy, and how they were the reason for illness in humans. I also liked how she made up fictional terms as if they were real terms. She combined real biology with fictional biology when she wrote about mitochondria which is real and farondolae which is not real. I thought it was funny when the farandolae which live within the mitochondria spoke to people, because I never heard anything inside my mitochondria speak to me.

I especially liked the fantasy parts of the book. I liked when Charle's Wallace saw dragons which really was a cherubim.

I definitely recommend reading this book if you are into science fiction!
