TW: Panic attack ; implied/referenced torture

The problem with depression, is that it doesn't go away.

It just waits, simmers, until it can come out.

Explosions, Shinobu had once said.

He couldn't remember the specifics of it, but it was around the time he first met her actually.

Around the time Sabito died...

They were training together.

Shinobu had asked if he could get them water.

He agreed.

He came back and Shinobu stared at him with a certain expression he couldn't place.

'Can I help you?' He had asked.

She shook her head.

'I could help you.' She said.

He hadn't understood that statement at the time.

Just ignored it and moved on, giving her her water and standing up to change.

But thinking back on it, he probably should have taken her up on the offer.

Because the next thing he died was so ridiculously stupid that it almost cost him everything.

They say hindsight is 20/20.

He agreed.

"If you want to come back, just ask the demon and he will bring you back. Otherwise, he will face my wraith." Shinobu said as she placed a hand on Tomioka's shoulder.

Sanemi rolled his eyes.

"Kocho, I am an adult you know? I can take care of myself."

He received two unimpressed stares.

"I am an adult." He repeated more firmly.

Shinobu rolled her eyes.

"M'kay sure. You are an adult. With a broken ankle, a damaged knee cap, several broken rips, dislocated wrist, and a minor concussion. All still healing."

"Key word, minor. Besides, didn't you say I was almost completely healed?" Tomioka said as he wrapped his haori tighter around his body.

It was cold outside.

Sanemi had even buttoned up his shirt.

Tomioka was surprised when it annoyed him.

He chalked it up to nerves.

Sanemi was going to take him to the training grounds, where Tanjiro had been training with Rengoku.

Tomioka would almost say he was excited to go.

Sanemi seemed unbothered.

Shinobu was acting concerned, which was new to Tomioka.

He wasn't used to people caring about him.

It hadn't happened in a long time after all.

They don't care...

They are just waiting...
