Aubrey
I leaned against the bar with my elbows on it as I ate my apple watching Junko yell at one of the strippers. One of the bartenders came over and started to put away the clean glasses “Frankie, can you get me a beer?” I asked him, he looked at me with a raised eyebrow.
“It's 10 am Aubrey,” he said to me.
“Yeah and? Come on man I'm dying of thirst” I whined, it made him roll his eyes but grabbed a beer from under the counter. I leaned over and kissed his cheek and thanked him before I drank from the bottle.
“Dumb ass plastic bitch” Junko mumbled as she walked over to me. “Is it just me or are people getting dumber?” She asked, I shrugged my shoulders but continued to eat my apple. When Junko’s phone rang she answered it. “What's up cowboy?” There was only one guy she called cowboy. Skinhead.
Junko listened to what he said because a moment later sighed groaned under her breath. “We will meet you at the club,” she told him before hanging up. “Let's go,” she said to me. I quickly down the rest of my beer and took the last bite of my apple before following Junko.
“What's going on?” I asked her once we got to my car.
“My dear brothers got into a fight last night. Got themselves locked up. Skinhead got them released and we're meeting them at the club” she sighed before getting into the car. Once I climbed into the driver's seat within a matter of seconds we were on our way to the Armoured Beasts clubhouse.
I pulled into the compound of the clubhouse, Junko and I climbed out of the car. While she spoke to a prospect asking where Skinhead was, I walked over to the remaining bikes that were lined up. There were only two, Jigsaws and Books. I could tell them apart. Jigsaw had his jigsaw sticker on the side of the fuel tank. Books had his bike custom made with a Beast airbrushed on the fuel tank.
I climbed onto Books bike and grabbed the handlebars, getting a feel of it. When the black van and two other motorcycles pulled in, I remained on the bike as I watched Jigsaw, Books and a prospect climb out of the car.
I chuckled lightly when Junko started yelling at her brother and stepbrother. It was quite funny to watch as they got yelled out by a short girl. Once she was finished Books made his way over. “Did anyone tell ya you could sit on my bike?” He asked me, I bit my lip.
“I actually don't recall, no. But you weren't here” I shrugged my shoulders, I climbed off the bike and walked over to him. “You might wanna ask your girls who wash it, to do it without their rings on. It seems like you have scratch marks on your bike” I whispered into his ear before walking towards Junko and Jigsaw. When I looked over my shoulder, I saw Books bend down to look at the fuel tank and when he stood up his jaw was clenched.
Over the next couple of hours, I stayed by the bar at the clubhouse while Junko caught up with Skinhead as they had their monthly meetings. The prospect behind the bar was talking to me as I sat there bored until my phone started to ring. I pulled it out of my back jean pocket, seeing it was my father. I sighed but answered, “Hey Dad, what’s up?”
“Aubrey…” I sighed to myself when I heard him say my name. I grabbed my beer and walked down the hall to speak to him without anyone hearing me. “I need you here. I need money” I heard him say, I closed my eyes and leaned against the wall that had a photo of the members of the club across from me.
“Dad, I can’t. I'm back in the US...” I told him, I took a sip of my beer before he started talking again.
“Bullshit Brey, I need you here. I...I’m not well” I could hear his voice crack. “I...I need more…” I banged my head against the wall as I listened to my father beg for more money for more drugs.
"You need help dad, there is only so much I can fucking do…"
"Please Brey…" he begged.
“Alright… alright I’ll see what I can do”
“Oh baby, thank you… thank you… hurry please...” I heard him say before we hung up. I sighed and took a sip of my beer but I remained there for a few moments until I heard someone's dorm door open down the hall.
"You alright?" I heard Books ask me, I closed my eyes and shook my head slightly before I opened them and looked at him.
"Fucking peachy" I mumbled pushing off the wall and made my way towards him. "Do you mind if I use your laptop?" I asked him. He looked at me for a moment while I bit my lip before he nodded his head and pushed his door open wide. I walked in when Books closed the door behind us, I stood near his chest of draws while he typed at his laptop for a moment.
"All yours" he mumbled, I placed the empty beer bottle on the draws before walking over to his desk. I brought up my bank website and made a transaction of $5,000. I debated with myself before I pressed the button. I sighed and dialled the number I knew off by heart.
"Check your bank," I told the person over the phone.
"Is he home?" The voice asked.
"Yep," I said before I hung up. I closed the website down before I leaned back in the chair.
"Who was that?" Books asked me when I leaned my head on my hand. I turned in the chair and looked at him.
"My father's drug dealer," I told him, his eyes looked like they were about to pop out of his head when he heard me.
"What?... Aubrey, you shouldn't be doing that" he told me but I shook my head.
"You think I don't know that? Where do you think I go for months when I'm not here? I go to Australia to help him stop but he doesn't"
"Is that why you came back with a black eye last year?" He asked me, I looked away from him. I remembered the black, I remember the day so clearly. I had woken up to my father banging on the bedroom door, yelling and screaming for me to go get him his fix but when I told him no he punched me and kicked me until I was black and blue.
"It doesn't matter" I mumbled.
"It does matter Aubrey, he shouldn't have laid a hand on you" he took a step towards me but I stood up from the chair.
"Just leave it alone" I walked past him towards his dorm door.
"He won't stop Aubrey, he will use you and when he dies you will be left with the huge debt." He said, making me stop before I opened the door.
"You don't know shit. So keep your fucking mouth shut" I yelled at him, I slammed the door open and walked out of his room. My hands were clenched into fists as I made my way to the main area of the clubhouse. Junko was just coming out of chapel with Skinhead and when she saw my expression she knew it was time to leave.
