Meet the Star: AnjSmykynyze

I've always wanted to write stories when I was in high school; but since the opportunity to have my works read is not available at that time, my desire to publish a story died out. Noong ma-aksidente ako, nagkaroon ako ng pagkakataong makapagsulat muli dahil sa wattpad. Noong una, mere reader lang ako, but I was challenged by a friend to write a story on Wattapad. Inisip niya kasing mahihirapan akong sumulat ng Filipino story - dahil maliban sa isa akong Bisaya, mas mahilig din kasi ako sa English literature.

2014 nang maaksidente ako sa Los Angeles habang nagtatanghal ng sayaw, napilitan akong manatili sa bahay habang nagpapagaling. Dahil doon, ni-recommend ng kaibigan ko ang Wattpad app upang malabanan ko ang boredom.  

"The Kiss of Poison Venus" = because I went out of my comfort zone when I decided to write the story. I used to stick on Romantic Comedies and Drama. This story was my first story that I went all the way from trying to write erotic/sexy scenes to creating action scenes. Ito rin ang unang kwentong napasali at nanalo sa Wattys 2016 bilang kabilang sa 'Trailblazers'. Maraming research din ang ginawa ko para maayos ko ang pagsulat ng mga detalye.

I was able to meet new friends, interact with readers, attended meet-ups and get-togethers, and most of all, experienced book signing events in Cebu, Davao and during the Manila International Book Fare. Noong minsang nag-aral ako sa Ateneo (PhD pero hindi ko natapos), nagkaroon ako ng pagkakataong makasama, makasalamuha at naging kaibigan ang mga authors na dati ko lang hinahangaan. Honestly, hanggang ngayon, na-star struck pa rin ako sa kanila. I felt so lucky to meet kind and very supportive people who became part of my circle.

That some parts of my stories are based on reality (mga experience ko o mga sitwasyong nakita ko sa aking paligid). I sometimes interview people who have similar experiences with my characters in the story. At bago ko isinulat ang first chapter ng story ko, naisip ko na kung ano ang ending nito.

Always plan ahead (plan your plot - sundin ang plot mountain na natutunan natin sa literature class), and don't wait for you to feel inspired to write - dahil madalas, hindi dumarating ang inspirasyon (hugot!) - but truth be told, ang creativity lumalabas kapag sinimulan mo ang pagsusulat.

I get to meet people who shared my passion. Kahit hindi ako masyadong nakikipag-usap sa kanila, seeing their success boosts my desire to finish what I have started. Ang totoo, I was inactive for quiet sometime dahil sa personal issues, but being part of the Stars Program brought me back to writing. 

I won the Watty Award (Wattys 2016) for my stories "The Kiss of Poison Venus" (at that time, Temptress1: Tainted - as one of the Trailblazers) and "My On-Cam Wife"
