Vita Flores had always dreamt of life on earth. She was born in space, never felt the sunlight on her face. But she yearned for its touch. There wasn't anything her heart desired more than feeling the grass beneath her feet and seeing the afterglow clinging to the top of the mountains. She wanted to feel the breeze of thousand summers and dance in the gentle autumn rain. Hearing the birds' quiet song and watching the flowers grow, was what longed for. What she longed for was peace.
Peace, however, was not what awaited her when she was sent down to earth. War, loss, grief, hatred was what she found. Not peace. Earth wasn't the place her many books had told her it would be. It wasn't the safe haven Vera Kane had promised her. It was just another nightmare the girl was trapped in. One she couldn't escape from any time soon.
Within the first week on earth tragedy had already hit the hundred, hit Vita especially. People died like flies. The first deaths came with their landing on the planet's surface. They were sent down to discover whether it was survivable or not. After all as criminals their lives were expendable. So they were told. They held no worth. The ark didn't care that the brunette's girlfriend died in acid fog, disoriented and all alone. She suffered and no one was there to help her through the pain. And although she died for them, the ark didn't care. To them Aspen died for a bigger cause.
Earth was filled with wonders and dangers alike. The grounders were their enemies. They called them savages. They saw themselves above them. But were the grounders really the monsters the hundred made them out to be?
