Shit.

I'm frozen, unable to move as I meet his gaze. I look into his deep-set forest green eyes and just stare. He stares right back.

I blink and clear my throat, quickly breaking eye contact.

"I uh, s-sorry about that," I stutter.

"Don't worry about it. I'm sorry if I startled you," he answers. "I'm Stefan, Stefan Salvatore," he says, holding his hand out.

And that's when I know for sure that he doesn't remember me. I stare down at his hand before slowly, tentatively taking it.

"Amber Crowley," I say softly as I shake his hand.

"Well, it's nice to meet you, Amber," Stefan says smiling down at me.

"Nice to meet you too," I respond, giving him a small smile in return.

We stand there for several more seconds, gazing into each other's eyes. There's something peaceful about standing there, not saying anything as we just look at one another.

The moment of silence is shattered as my phone rings loudly. I scramble to pull it out of my back pocket.

"Sorry," I mumble checking the caller ID.

"Shoot, I have to go," I say looking up at Stefan

"Shoot, I have to go," I say looking up at Stefan.

He smiles, "Of course. I'll see you around?"

"Oh," I say, surprised. "Uh- um, y-yea. See you around."

He chuckles softly, and I find myself looking into his eyes again. My phone rings again, and I'm brought back to reality.

"Right, um. Bye!" I say as I start walking towards the main road.

"Bye," Stefan answers.

I turn around and hurry away, unaware of Stefan's gaze following me as I go. Once I reach the main road, I make sure there's no one strong before vamp speeding back to my house. I bolt inside, locking the door before leaning my back against it as I catch my breath.

"What the hell just happened," I say to myself, sliding down to the floor.

"Calm down Amber. Get it together," I whisper.

But the memory of his gorgeous eyes works its way into my thoughts, and I sigh. I don't understand why, for the first time, I wasn't afraid of him.

Suddenly, I remember that Elena had called me. Twice. Crap. I grab my phone, shooting off a series of text messages.

I know I should tell her about running into Stefan

I know I should tell her about running into Stefan... literally. But it feels almost private, and I don't really want to share it with anyone else. So, I pick myself up off the floor and head into my room.
