I turn off my phone and plug it in so it can charge. I change into my outfit before heading into the bathroom to do my hair and makeup.

Once I'm done getting ready I grab my bag and head to the front door. I open it and freeze in shock, totally unprepared for who is standing on my porch.

Stefan stands there, hand raised as if he were about to knock.

"Hi," he says, "I was going to knock."

"Hey. Uh, what are you doing here?" I ask.

"I wanted to return this. I found it in the cemetery," he says, handing me what I realize is my sketchbook.

"Oh my gosh! Thank you so much, Stefan! I had no idea I'd lost it," I say, relief clear in my voice.

"It's no problem," he says, smiling softly.

"And so you don't think I'm stalking you, I ran into the sheriff earlier and got your address from her."

I laugh, not noticing his smile grow at the sound, or the soft look in his eyes. Once I stop laughing, I clear my throat. This isn't the Stefan from 1865. He isn't violent, cruel, or threatening. This Stefan is kind, caring, and nice. I look into his eyes, and in that moment make a decision. I decide to give him a chance, to allow myself to get to know him.

"I'm heading out to the Grill to meet my friends. Would you like to come with me?" I ask, my voice laced with shyness.

"I'd love to," he replies.

I look up in surprise, not expecting him to say yes. A smile works its way onto my face, and I quickly turn to close and lock the door, hiding the slight blush. I take a deep breath before turning back to Stefan.

"Well then," I say, "Let's go."
