ELPHABA
Ok, let's review everything I've taught you so far. Start with invisibility.
(IDINA vanishes and reappears)
Good! Now try ice.
(IDINA picks up a rock and closes her eyes. It freezes over slowly. KRISTIN and GLINDA come in)
KRISTIN
Oh my gosh, it's Elsa.
IDINA
(laughs)
Oh, be quiet, GA-linda.
GLINDA
Why was that a joke? I used to be Galinda, not her.
KRISTIN
It's because I played you in the musical.
GLINDA
Oh! I get it! So, how's it going?
ELPHABA
Good. We just-
(stops and listens)
Did you hear that?
KRISTIN
Hear what....?
(sees soldiers pointing wands at her)
I'M INNOCENT DON'T KILL ME!!!!
(drops to ground with her hands over her head)
ELPHABA
Everyone go! I'll handle this!
(everyone but IDINA leaves)
Idina, go!
IDINA
No! I'm helping you, and that's final!
(ELPHABA points at them and rocks at their feet explode. A soldier comes up behind ELPHABA and hits her over the head with his gun. She passes out)
Elphaba!
GENERAL
Why don't you just surrender now? We contained your magical friend.
IDINA
NEVER!
(a bright flash of light. Two guards drop to the ground, dead)
GENERAL
It's the other witch! Retreat!
(all the soldiers leave except the GENERAL)
You know, you're just like the Wicked Witch. You kill for no reason and get pleasure from it. You see those soldiers. That's why we're on the right side.
IDINA
No! I'm not like that, and neither is Elphaba.
GENERAL
Think what you want, witch, but remember, you're powerless when it comes to us. You see, it just so happens that we also have a magical friend. He practices good magic, and the good will always win over the wicked.
IDINA
As if taking over the world is so pure hearted.
GENERAL
You have no right to speak to me that way.
(suddenly laughs)
It doesn't matter. It's not like we teamed up with the Wicked Witch.
(leaves. The others come back in)
GLINDA
That was terrifying.
(sees ELPHABA on the floor)
Elphie! What happened?
IDINA
She'll be fine. They knocked her out.
(as if cued, ELPHABA starts to wake up)
ELPHABA
What...
(her eyes widened)
Where are the soldiers? What happened?
(she tries to sit up, but falls back)
GLINDA
Elphie, just stay still for a minute. The soldiers are gone, everything is fine.
(IDINA doesn't seem to be paying attention)
KRISTIN
Idina? You all right?
IDINA
I'm fine. I just need to be alone for a minute.
(she walks out quickly)
ELPHABA
She didn't seem fine. Maybe you should go check on her, Kristin.
KRISTIN
Probably.
(she exits too)
