KRISTIN
This place is so cool! You can't even see it from outside!
ELPHABA
Remember to keep your voice down. They can't see us, but they can still hear us.
FIYERO
(withdrawing his head from the vine 'curtain')
Um, Elphaba?
ELPHABA
What?
FIYERO
They're here. And I think they know where we are.
ELPHABA
Cursed moons and fireballs!
FIYERO
What did we say about using Badlands language around other people?
ELPHABA
Sorry. We need a plan. I think we're going to hide up on those ledges when the army comes in. Once they've let their guard down, we'll attack. You'll distract them so Idina and I can-
IDINA
Elphaba, listen, I know what you're going to say, and I just wanted to let you know that I'm not up for it. I'm not going to use my magic to hurt someone again.
ELPHABA
Well, I guess we could probably think of something else. Let me think...
(gasps as she gets an idea)
I know what we can do!
IDINA
What?
ELPHABA
(whispers her plan)
If it works, you won't even have to fight!
IDINA
It's perfect! Let's do it.
About thirty minutes later
GENERAL
Here we are. They must be out, but we'll wait and give them a surprise.
IDINA
(off)
We're not all gone.
(soldiers jump. Idina appears. She used an illusion spell to make it look like her clothes and her hair are on fire and to turn her eyes red)
You shouldn't have come looking for us. I've gotten more powerful since we last met. You'll regret your actions.
(waves hand and a ring of fire surrounds soldiers. ELPHABA and the others come out of hiding. Suddenly, the ring of fire vanishes. STRANGER steps forward)
STRANGER
You shouldn't have fought the new system. You could all have been safe, protected. But now I am the one with all of that and you are going to be dead soon. Or slaves. I don't care which.
ELPHABA
Who are you?
STRANGER
Who am I? Why, did I not mention that already?
(lowers hood. GLINDA gasps)
GLINDA
Boq!?
BOQ
Hello, Glinda. Long time, no see.
GLINDA
How could you do this, Boq? How could you do this to me?
(BOQ winces)
BOQ
You could always come with me. I could make the Madame protect you.
GLINDA
I would never stoop so low.
BOQ
Well then, you leave me no choice. Remember that you had a chance, Glinda.
(he waves his hand, and ELPHABA and GLINDA disappear)
IDINA
(illusion fading)
No!
KRISTIN
What did you do to them?
BOQ
Oh, I just moved them. They're in the Emerald Palace now. It also happens to be where you're going, too.
KRISTIN
As if we'll come quietly.
IDINA
Calm down, Kristin. It's all right.
KRISTIN
What are you saying?
IDINA
(makes a significant face at KRISTIN)
I'm saying that we have to go with them. There's nothing we can do.
BOQ
That's right.
(SOLDIERS shove IDINA and KRISTIN out of the cave, followed by BOQ)
