14. The Secret Room

We finally land in New York, in my home town. Clare is staying with Kat while we are here and then Kat, Clare and Mike will be coming in a few days. The original reason we came here was to start filming for the next series on the Sam and Colby channel,  it the guys said they would help me sort out the house
"What's up guys it's Sam and Colby" Colby starts the video
"We are currently in New York in Rose's home town. By the time you see this series you will know why we are here, it's not just for the series but we will also be helping Rose sort out her old houses" Sam explains
"We are just outside of Rose's old family home because we need to find some books that we were told we needed" Colby says
"Flash forward to us in the future to explain why we are here"
"Woah that's trippy brotha. It's our future but when your editing it will be our past but it will be the viewers present"
"Duuude your right" Corey says to Jake.

We arrive at the house and begin to look for the hidden books, Colby is filming us
"She said that she hid them under the floor boards"
"Did she say where?" I shake my head at Sam's question. We decided to split up, Sam and Jake are going to look around downstairs while me, Corey and Colby look upstairs. First we look in my old bedroom. It's strange being in here as nothing has been touched
"You never said why your dad owns two houses" Colby says looking around
"This one was actually owned by my mom. They split up when I was 7, he was cheating on her with Clare's mom. After they split up mom became really sick, so she wrote out her will before she died. This house legally belongs to me. My dad wanted me to sign it over to him, but I couldn't let it go. Even now I don't know if I can, it reminds me so much of her and Rhys" both Corey and Colby give me a sympathetic smile "anyway, we're looking for loose floor boards. See any?" I ask trying to change the subject
"No in here" Colby sighs
"Ok let's go and check my moms room" I say walking out off old bedroom and into her room which also has been left untouched. I walk over to her nightstand and open it up to find a bottle of perfume, of course it doesn't smell the same as it used to, but now I know what she used to wear and I can buy the same one to feel close to her. There's a photo on her nightstand of her, Rhys and myself all smiling. I pick it up and start to get teary eyed so I put it back down quickly and sit on her bed looking around the room when I notice some floorboards that are slightly lifted. I walk over to then
"Guys look"
"Watch you don't get splinters" Corey says as I lift up the the boards "what the fuck" I breath out
"What is it?" Colby asks
"How much do you guys know about hex bags?" I ask crouched down
"What are you on about?" Colby asks
"Look but don't touch it" the boys lean over and look. We hear our names being called from downstairs. We all walk downstairs to see Sam at the bottom
"So Jake was messing around with the book shelf and then all of a sudden these floorboard lifted up and, well just follow me and look for yourselves" we follow Sam to see a hole now in the living room floor with steps going down. This is what mom must have meant when she said under the floorboards.

We all walk down the stairs and find ourselves in a room, on the walls there are shelves with different bottles on with liquids in and there are different books all scattered around
"What is this place?" Colby asks looking around
"I have no idea, I didn't know it existed" I say almost in disbelief
"Oh no" I look over to Corey who's stood at a table
"What?"
"There's books over here and a note. I had a little read and these are spell books" I walk over to Corey and take the note

To my sweet baby girl,
if you are reading this then I have passed away and you are in trouble. I know you will confused right now so I wrote this letter to explain. While I was alive I practiced magic, some people can learn spells and how to cast them, but others are born with the ability. Those born with magic are stronger, they are able to contact the other side. This is how I knew you would be in trouble one day, the reason I got sick was to try and save you from what you probably know as the Shadow Man. He is a demon, I was trying to find out his name for you because you can't get rid of him until you know his name, but he caught up to me and so I made a deal with him, my life for yours. Your brother made the same deal. Your probably asking yourself why would we give up our lives for you? That's because that was our fate, yours is to save your friends and possibly a lot more people.

Rose you hold the same magic as I did, I never showed you how to control it because I never wanted you have to use it, but I should have shown you and I'm sorry I didn't. These book should help you, also go upstairs into my room, there will be a trunk full of books. Look for my diaries they will help you learn to control your magic. I love you Rose. Good luck.

I finish reading the letter out loud to the boys while Sam was filming
"So what do we do now?" Corey asks as I wipe the tears that have formed in my eyes
"Well from the sounds of it, we need to figure out this demons name" I sigh "Sam, Colby can you guys be in charge of that?"
"Of course, but what about you, Jake and Corey" Sam says
"Well I need to learn how to do magic and control it, I was thinking maybe they could help?" I turn to look at Corey and Jake giving them a slight smile
"I hate saying this, but we will help you any way we can. I'll do research on, I guess witches"
"And I'll lighten up the mood" Jake says smiling
"I feel really guilty. My mom and brother sacrificed themselves to save me"
"They wouldn't have done it if they had another choice Row"
"I know, just sucks" I start to gather up some books with the help of the boys and the letter mom had wrote. We head back up to moms room and into her trunk. I find her diaries and start to pack them up as well
"Why do you think there is a hex bag in her room?" I ask
"I really don't know" Colby sighs
"Are you up to sorting the house out or do you want to do that tomorrow?" Sam asks
"No we can start now" for the rest of the day we  sort things out into piles of keep, throw and charity. We then head back to the hotel.
