Chapter 44: Realization

 "Soomi," In-yeop shook Soomi's shoulder as the girl lie still on the floor. He tapped her cheek a little harder this time but still no response. "Fuck! Soomi open your eyes, please!"

Yumi got closer to them at the same time Dong-min did. She knelt on the ground and grabbed Soomi's hand. She placed her forefinger and middle finger on her wrist to check her pulse.

"Her pulse is too quick," she said to everyone. She cupped Soomi's face and made her head lie straight up, opening the girl's closed eyes. "Her pupils are dilated, too."

Yumi tapped Soomi's cheek hoping to receive some response even a simple hum just for her to know that she's still conscious. "Soomi? Soomi can you hear me?" Unfortunately, no response was made. Soomi stayed lying still on the ground. "We need to get her to the hospital!" Yumi told them, not able to hide her panicked voice.

Without uttering a single word, In-yeop carried her in his arms. "Hospital is very far from this place." He was about to get out when Dong-min stopped him.

"Where are you going to bring her, then?" He asked.

"I saw some laboratory guys working at the laboratory nearby. They will know what to do," he answered and continued walking out of that room towards where the medical staffs are. Yumi, Chorong, and Dong-min followed.

As soon as they have reached the room built to be a mini-laboratory, everyone working inside froze when they suddenly barged in. In-yeop lay Soomi on the table nearest him and Dong-min pushed all things aside, which made some bottles topple over the floor and shatter them to pieces, creating loud sounds. All workers were perplexed with their actions, not having the slightest idea of what's happening and that the person they are working under has already been caught.

"Sir, you can't just barge in here," one of the laboratory staff, who In-yeop assumes the one leading everyone in the room, bravely told them and instructed them to leave.

"That crazy bastard had injected something on her. I need you to inspect her," In-yeop asked or more like commanded the staff.

"We got nothing to do about that and we are asking you to leave," the man said trying to equally gaze at In-yeop the way he looks at him. In-yeop promptly pulled a gun out and pointed it at the staff. Other workers screamed in terror and the guy who just asked them to leave froze on his spot.

"Check her before I blow your brains out!" In-yeop threatened him in his greeted teeth. The staff raised his hand as he surrenders and walked closer to Soomi. Dong-min placed his hand on In-yeop's hand, a gesture that he should not go to that extent. Slowly, In-yeop slides his hand down but still holding the gun.

"I have already checked her pulse and it's too fast. I have also checked her eyes and they are dilated," Yumi informed the man who pressed his two fingers on Soomi's pulse.

"Give me a syringe, cotton, and disinfectant," the man instructed and the staff closest to where those things he just said are located quickly moved to get what is needed. That girl staff immediately walked towards them holding the syringe, tearing the wrapper with her teeth in the process. She poured disinfectant into the hands of the man inspecting Soomi and also wiped them with a clean towel.

The man inspecting Soomi poured disinfectant on the cotton and cleaned the part where he will draw blood from the unconscious girl. When he leaned down and was about to press the syringe on Soomi's skin, In-yeop grabbed his hand to stop him.

"What are you doing?" In-yeop's eyes widen, not liking what he sees. He's starting to regret trusting the laboratory guys given that they work for Mr. Han.

"I have to draw some blood from her to check if my speculations are correct," the man answered. Slowly, In-yeop lets go but his eyes focused directly on what the man is doing. One wrong move and this man will surely swim in his own blood.
