As told in Barrier I through the Memory chapter's (two in total), Karen Wheeler went through drug trials while pregnant with Y/n and Michael Wheeler. These experiments were conducted by Martin Brenner. She never came to be aware of these tests due to being unconscious while they were being managed.
After months of the continuous trials, the notes orderly's took during questionnaires showed signs of late development results meaning if the fetus were to display indications of supernatural abilities after birth, it would happen later in their life.
That's how Y/n Wheeler's powers came to be.
