The Proposal

"Why are we all the way...up here?" I panted out, it was absolutely freezing but thankfully the extreme walk had warmed me up just enough that I wasn't dying or nearing a state of becoming a polar bear. We were once more on another one of our holidays and we'd chosen somewhere very cold and very snowy all over again.

"You'll see," Derek assured his hand finding my own gloved one. He too had gloves wrapped around his hand (something I was very surprised about although I feel like it only proves to you that this place truly is cold and it's not just me being me).

It was incredibly dark and so the walk-in itself was confusing and ever so slightly annoying. I should be in bed right now, or having dinner, or drinking a glass of wine in front of the fire. Or taking Christmas card photo's because what else is there to do in life other than send your family horrendous photo's of you and your partner?

Shaking out my body to try and get more warmth, I ignored the numbness in my toes as I looked behind me to see what Derek was doing, "what are we doing?"

"There," he said, and I followed his hand to see that he was pointing up at the sky. It was the northern lights.

Belts and flashes of colour decorated the sky like an artists painting and it was purely magnificent. Staring at it, I could vaguely feel Derek moving behind me but I didn't care. The sky was very beautiful.

The guide beside us was setting up a camera although I don't think there'd ever be a photo that could possibly capture such beauty.

"Grace," turning around, a frown fell on my face since Derek was no longer in front of me but instead he was on the floor. Allowing my head to fall forward, my heart completely froze over. He was on one knee with a devilish smirk on his face and the infamous little black velvet box that somehow reflected the lights coming from the sky.

"Will you marry me?"

I couldn't move. In fact, I couldn't really think for a moment, "y-you... you want to marry me?" I asked, not being able to help myself and he nodded.

"Well I wouldn't have asked otherwise," he mused and it took a few seconds before I nodded.

I could feel tears dancing in my eyes but I didn't want to cry because they might turn into little ice cubes on my face and that sounds rather uncomfortable. "I-er-really though? Me?"

"Yes."

Nodding again, the smile formed on my face, "Yeah, yeah I'll marry you," I finally managed and he pushed himself up, "I'm not taking my gloves off though," I added on and he chuckled snapping the ring box shut and sliding it into his pocket.

As he straightened out entirely, I wrapped my arms around him for a hug and pressed my lips to his and he quickly did the same. "I love you," he muttered.

"I love you too."
