Brinleys Point of View

Red. Blue. Yellow. Green. STOP. Yellow, Blue. Red. Yellow. Red. STOP. Red. Red. Red. Green. STOP. END OF MESSAGE

This is all I do. Well I do more than that but this is what I do to help out the team. I sit on a coffee shop looking at the lights in the back flash.  Then I decode the messages with a specific code that changes about every week.  Then I have to send them to whoever needed them. A foolproof way of sending important messages to one another with out the government knowing.

"Almost done there?" a voice behind me said.

Rowan stood behind me looking at the paper that I just translated.

"Read between the lines, and you will find where we are." He looked up at me. "You sure you translated that right"

I gave him my best glare. This was my only job you think I would be at least good at it.

"I'm pretty sure" I cross my arms

"I doubt you can do any better" I roll my eyes.

"I would say your wrong, but I would be lying" he hugged me from behind. I  smiled. I truly liked being with him. His seriousness when he's working and the way he cares for others, not to mention his tamales. Oh my goodness! Delicious!

"Hey, where's Ve?"

"She's still asleep. I needed to check if there was any messages by my parents." He looked through the paper and read each one. Usually the papers were daily events just incase the government did crack the code.

"Unfortunately no messages from my parents." He grabbed the paper that made no sence and analyzed it again.

"There was nothing after this correct?"

I looked up at him as he furrowed his brow in frustration.

"Nothing after. It had the two blinking lights after to singnal the message was finished."

Rowan picked up the paper and folded it placing it in his jacket pocket.

"I have a feeling that this is going to be important. Do you have anymore messages to decode for today?"

I looked at my watch to check the time. Messages in public places stops at 1PM. There were people that read messages in places that support The Resistance. You have to take a course to make sure that you arent a spy and that you can actually read the codes. Then you have be assigned a place. These can be libraries, fast food places, and cafes like this. The clock read 12:42 PM.

"I have about 15 minutes left and I'm finished."

"Alright, I'll get coffee."

"A medium coffee wit..."

"With a little cream, little sugar, medium roast. I know your order, I've been friends with you since what 12."

I smiled. I've been friends with Rowan for a long time. He always picked up on the little stuff. How I liked my coffee, my favorite food, even my complicated order from Wendy's. I think that's the one thing I like about him most. He always listened. ALWAYS. He will stop whatever he is doing to just listen to your problems.

All of a sudden one of the lights blinked three times telling me that I had another code to decode.

RED. BLUE. GREEN. GREEN ...

We walked out of the cafe with coffee and coffee cake in our hands. We'll need it tonight. We were going to make the three hour trip to Rowans parents house. As we walked we talked. We lived in a little apartment in a little city. It wasnt that small town that everybody knows everybody but it was small enough that only one or two major roads ran through it. The biggest building we had was that business building on the other side of town. If we were walking there it would take about an hour or so.

Finally we got to the apartment. Rowan showed the paper to Vera and she too believed that it was important. They had their coffee and and sat in their small living room.

"How's your head?" I asked Vera.

"Better than yesterday but it still hurts a little." She looked down at her coffee and shook it a little. the creamer danced around with the coffee.

"I'm going to pack." Vera said.

She walked up and turned down the hallway. She walked into her room. We waited a few seconds then heard music blaring from her room. Rowan and I looked at eachother and burst out laughing. Only Vera would cure a head ache with loud music.
