why do i always fall for
queer girls who live on
the other side of the world
and straight girls?

my childhood friend and i
haven't spoken in years
but recently
we got close again.

she's kind and sweet and funny.
she's beautiful inside and out.
i'm not sure if she's straight
but she lives somewhere
in the middle east.

when we were in primary school,
we were the best of friends
or that's what she told me
since my memory fails me
but different classes and
different friend groups
made us drift apart.

when we were in high school,
i see her now and then
walking in the hallways
and i always wanted
to talk to her
but found that i couldn't.

i think it's safe to say
that i'm crushing on her
real hard ever since
we started talking again.

but i know
that by the time i post this,
i would've jinxed it.
and my chances
of being with her
will be none.

i'll find out
that she's straight
or maybe she's not
but my feelings
aren't reciprocated.
well, life happens.
