The streets of New York were big, bustling, loud, and smelly. The evening was mellow and chilly. Snowflakes danced across the sky and onto the concrete of the city.

The fumes of diesel wafted by us as we walked down the street. Ah, you smell that? That's the stench of the hustle and bustle. It wasn't the most refreshing thing to smell, though. I'd rather smell fresh pine...or sea breeze. But hey, New York was my home. And I sure did love the city...and its mutant rats. I think the tourists mainly came to visit because of the rats. You could almost mistake them for small cats. I mean, not exactly, but you get what I'm trying to say.

Peter and I were bundled in our winter gear as we held hands going down the sidewalk. We were off on Christmas break. Going to school was for suckers, and I certainly was no sucker. Peter was, though, but don't tell him I said that. Regardless of all the insults I give him, he was my cute sucker.

Ahem, that didn't sound right. You know what I mean, though.

"Do you want to go look at the Christmas lights when it gets dark?" Peter asked as he squeezed my glove-covered hand.

I nodded my head. "Sure. I'll buy the cocoa."

Peter smiled. "Hey, that sounds pretty good to me. Free cocoa? Hell yeah."
