(LARA JEAN) I WAKE UP HAPPY BECAUSE ITS THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. i've always loved the first day of school better than the last day of school. probably because i think firsts are the best because they're beginnings.
while daddy and kitty were upstairs washing up, i made wholewheat pancakes with sliced bananas— and i couldn't help thinking about how liv prefers blueberries on her pancakes. i decided that i'd probably take her some to school with me.
the coffee was a fail though— i'm pretty sure it's not supposed to be light like cocoa? when daddy came down for breakfast, he cheered in a merry voice, "i smell coffee!" but when he drunk it, he only took one sip. even though he gave me an unconvincing thumbs-up, i was knew it wasn't very good. i guess i'm a better baker than i am a cook.
"you look like a farm girl." kitty commented about my outfit with a touch of meanness, and i was pretty sure she was still at least a little bit mad at me for not inviting her out with liv and i to our picnic.
"will you braid my hair to the side?"
"you don't deserve a braid from me." kitty said curtly, stabbing her pancakes with her fork. "besides, a braid would only take it too far. but if you really want one, ask liv when you get to school."
