Leila's Life (Maya and Carina Fanfic)

Carina's Brother

No POV

After the incident at the station, Maya drove Leila back to the apartment and periodically called and texted her throughout the day to check on her. During one of the phone calls, Leila told Maya it was ok for her to tell Carina everything.

Carina's heart broke just as much as Maya's hearing Leila's story. They both were determined to be the best foster parents for Leila; even though she hadn't been in their lives very long, they couldn't imagine their lives without her.

Maya had a word with all the men on the team explaining the situation with Leila. She said it would take a lot of time for Leila to open up to them and that if any of them broke her trust, not only would they (more than likely) never get it back, but she'd go 'mama bear' on them.

Time Jump

Leila's been with Maya and Carina for a few months, and they've settled into a comfortable routine. Depending on their schedules, either Maya or Carina would drive Leila to school after school she'd either hang out at the station, the hospital, or go home.

Leila has gotten comfortable enough that she refers to the bedroom as "her room" and there's more furniture and décor in her room.

Leila is becoming more comfortable with Maya's team, but she never spends too much time alone with the guys; she's more comfortable with Andy and Vic.

On this particular day, it was about 4pm and Leila was in her room doing homework. She heard the door open, and she heard Carina talking back and forth in Italian and English.

Leila POV

I'm working on my English homework when I hear someone come in. It took less than a minute for me to figure out it was Carina.

It sounded like she was talking to someone on the phone; I could tell by what I could hear of the conversation. Also, she kept going back and forth between speaking Italian and English. I wonder who she's talking to.

After a few moments of quiet I decide to try and figure this out. I open my bedroom door and see Carina in the kitchen. "Carina?" I yell.

Carina's face lights up when she sees me "Hi bambina! Come here!" I walk over to her, and she gives me the biggest hug. "How was school?"

"It was fine. I have an algebra quiz in two days. And we're reading excerpts from Romeo and Juliet in English class this week".

"Oh! That's one of my favorites! Which part are you at?" I walk over to the dining room table and sit down "We stopped right before the party scene where Romeo and Juliet see each other for the first time...speaking of which, who were you talking to on the phone when you got home?"

"My brother". OMG Carina has a brother?!

"What?!" "Yeah..." she looks at me "he works at Grey-Sloan also. He's part of the reason I came to America in the first place".

I start getting nervous; maybe I shouldn't have asked. "Um...What were you two talking about? Does he know about me?" Carina walks over to me.

"Yes Leila, he knows about you..." she sits down next to me and puts her hand on top of mine. "He keeps asking when he can come over to meet you". "Does he know that..." I think Carina knew what I was about to say.

"Yes bambina I've told him...he knows" I look down; I feel Carina rubbing my hand. "Hey..." Carina puts her hand on my cheek when I look up at her.

"It's your call bella. If you don't want to meet him you don't have to. If you do, Maya and I will be here the entire time. You don't have to talk to him or look at him..." I can tell Carina really wants me to meet her brother.
