Introduction - Déjà Stupid
I really should have known better than to have thought I’d be able to capture the joke the Republican Party has become in a single book. The joke was on me apparently. The first book in this series - LOL at the GOP - covered events until the point when the sexiest android in the world - Mitt Romney - became the Republican nominee for the 2012 presidential election. With so much happening since that time, I felt a second volume was warranted. At the rate the Republican Party is going, you can expect volumes 3 through 947 to become available before the 2016 election.
Yes, while Democrats were attempting to paint themselves as 1970s Republicans leading up to election day, Republicans tended to paint themselves as a hybrid of a drunk uncle and Jim Jones. Due to this, rumor has it that Ronald Reagan has officially changed his party affiliation from R (Republican) to AE (Anything Else), Abraham Lincoln is in a permanent facepalm pose, and Jesus is thinking about ending the world by saying his father’s name in vain.
During this past election season, multiple Republican candidates decided that the quantity of socially acceptable topics for dinner-table discussions was too compressed, so they figured it was time to expand this very list. This new list included many of the traditional dinner-table topics, as well as one that was brand-spanking new. The updated list read as follows: Work, the weather, football, dating, the Bible, and rape.
In addition to some Republican candidates talking about rape in a tone which resembled the first time they discussed Santa Claus with their children, a pro-life candidate endorsed the death penalty for kids, a member of the House Science Committee declared that his votes are Bible-based, and Mitt Romney joined the fun by essentially stating that 47% of this country will never amount to anything more than a motorcycle helmet made of bubble wrap.
