Kayla's POV

"Are we almost there? My feet hurt. Can you carry me?" I complained.

"Kayla, you're a big girl. We're almost there. Only three more blocks to go."

"You carried Owen the whole way; why can't you carry me?"

"Please stop whining. We can sit down once we get to the restaurant."

I stopped walking in the middle of the sidewalk. Mom stumbled because she was still holding my hand. I let go of her hand and crossed my arms.

"I don't want to keep walking. I'm tired and hungry."

"I can't carry you. You already ate breakfast and we'll be eating again soon. We need to get to the clubhouse on time. We have reservations."

I zoned out as mommy was talking to me. I looked around and saw that we were standing in front of a bakery. I pulled on her arm.

"Let's go in here."

"We don't have time."

"Please please please. I promise I'll stop whining. I'll even walk faster."

"Okay. Let's go," mom said reluctantly.

"Yay!"

The bakery smelled wonderful. In the center of the room was a glass case full of treats. There was everything from muffins to donughts.

"I want a doughnut."

"How about something a little healthier. A muffin?"

"No. I want a chocolate glazed doughnut."

"You need to drop the attitude right now young lady."

Mommy has never used that tone with me. I got scared.

"I'm sorry mommy. I didn't mean to be bad."

"I accept your apology. Let's get some doughnuts and go."

"Okay." I got my doughnut but I didn't feel good about it. We made it to the clubhouse on time. I could tell mommy was nervous.

Taylor's POV

My heart was pounding after walking so fast. I was afraid we wouldn't make it to the clubhouse on time. I was still upset with Kayla's behavior earlier this morning, but different emotions filled my mind as we stepped inside. I scanned the entry way. He was standing casually by the front desk wearing a suit. My stomach flipped. I hadn't seen him in so long, yet he looked unchanged. He must have spotted us because he started walking in our direction. I tried to set Owen down, but he only wrapped his arms tighter around my neck. Great, I am meeting a date with my son stuck to my neck. How attractive, I thought to myself.

"Uh hi. It's been a while since I've seen you." He grinned sheepishly.

"Yeah. A couple of years at least. Before Owen."

"We should sit down. I have a table reserved for us."

"That would be great." I'm sure I was blushing.

A waiter lead us to a table. Owen kept squirming in my arms and Kayla was skipping through the restaurant. Mental note, don't give kids sugar before going somewhere nice.

"Mommy?"

"Yes darling?"

"What is the boy's name?"

"Oh, I completely forgot to introduce you guys. Kayla, Owen meet Ed. Mr. Sheeran meet Kayla and Owen."

Ed goes to shake the kids' hands.
