Noelle
It had been over a week since Skylar went missing and there were apparently no leads. It was absolutely ridiculous! I have no clue where my best friend is or even if she's alive. The not knowing was driving everyone mad, at least knowing what happened to her would have given us closure but the police had given us nothing.

Many people believed Skylar must be dead but although it makes sense, I couldn't accept that she was gone, not yet anyway. I was literally on the phone with her as she disappeared. She must have thought she declined it but the call never ended so I heard someone come up behind her and then I could hear her muffled screams and movement as she put up a fight until suddenly the line went dead. Obviously, I called the police right after unsure of what just happened and from there everything happened in a blur. Soon there were police cars covering the drive, we did a search party, and I had to give my statement of what happened too many times to count.

I called Skylar's parents right after calling the police and they arrived a few days later. They rented a house round the corner from the flat I shared with Skylar. I've known Skylar's parents since I was really young and we we were getting through this rough time together. Olivia, Skylar's mum, is an amazing cook so I initially went over to theirs for food every evening to check up on them and discuss any updates from the police. Her father, Roman, had barely said anything since they got here, he was probably still in shock. You never think this sort of thing can happen to you or someone close to you until it does, then everything falls apart.

I was also barely coping with Skylar not being with me every day anymore, at least it was the holidays and I wasn't stressed with university work but it still didn't help that everything in the flat reminded me of her. Whenever I went to get breakfast I would be reminded that she wasn't there to make her amazing pancakes, or when I went to our bedroom the floor would be clear instead of covered in Skylar's clothes which didn't seem right. I slowly began to go over to Olivia and Roman's house more and more often to avoid it all until eventually I was practically living there. Thankfully her parents didn't mind, I had been friends with Skylar a long time so they knew me really well.

What hurt most of all was that Skylar would never know how I felt about her. Yes, we were best friends since childhood but I recently began to develop feelings for her and although I tried to ignore them it got to a point where I couldn't deny it.

I liked Skyler, and as more than a friend.

I know I should have told her, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. there were so many reasons that would put me off every time I wanted to. First of all, she was still my best friend and I didn't want to ruin our friendship if she didn't feel the same way. And then there was the fact that I didn't know if she was straight or not because we had never had that conversation. None of that mattered now anyway because Skylar wasn't here. I did make decide though that if we ever found Skylar and I saw her again, I promised myself that I would tell her how I felt, even if it meant risking our whole friendship.

I was over at Skylar's parents' house when there was a knock on the door. I went to answer it in case it was someone pulling a stupid prank because you would be surprised how many people think this is funny. Cautiously approaching the door I let out a sigh of relief when I saw it was detective Archer, who was working on Skylar's case. I opened the door and greeted her.

"hey detective, any news on Skylar?"

"Yes, we have a new lead but it would be better if I could come in and speak to everyone"

I invited her in and called Olivia and Roman down letting them know Detective Archer was here and we all sat gathered on the sofa in the living room.

"So, we have a witness who believes they saw Skylar in a hotel near Glasgow." Detective Archer announced.

We sat in silence for a while processing what that meant until eventually Olivia responded

"She's in Scotland? That's miles away how the hell did she end up there?"

"We are not sure" The detective answered calmly "but what we do know is that someone spotted a woman who matches Skylar's description exiting a hotel about a week ago with another man. We checked the security cameras and, while we couldn't get a clear view of the man, the woman quite clearly looked a lot like Skylar so we have sent a team to investigate and we will see if we can get any fingerprints or DNA but that's all we know for now."

"wow" I remarked unsure what this meant. "So she is alive then?"

"We can't confirm that for sure, but we can guarantee we will be doing our best to find out"

"Thank you so much Detective, we appreciate everything you are doing for Skylar" I exclaimed, finally realising I might actually see Skylar again.

"We will be sure to get in touch when we have any more information." She replied smiling warmly.

We sat in silence again unsure what else to say until Kate added

"I promise you, though, we will do our absolute best to find Skylar and bring her home where she belongs"

Roman smiled placidly, before responding, for the first time since Skylar's disappearance,

"And we are extremely grateful for your help. Thank you for everything you've done so far, we really appreciate it."

We then said our goodbye's and I eventually showed Kate out. I couldn't believe it though, they finally had a lead.

Skylar, wherever you are, just hang on there, help is coming.
