(Bold are thoughts)
Over the years, Phoenix and Miles' friendship had grown stronger and stronger.
Phoenix had even befriended Larry Butz. He had appreciated his gutsy and adventurous attitude while Larry appreciated Phoenix's brains and helpful nature.
On the sleepover, Phoenix's first word was Miles' name, Miles. After that, his speech got better and better, and by the time he had returned home, his speech had been perfected.
However, Manfred said he didnt want a noisy chatterbox and said sharply that freaks should be seen and not heard.
So Phoenix rarely spoke, speaking almost only when spoken too. When they were six years old, the principal sat down with the boys and explained after summer, they would go to high school and that they could choose where to go and the school would pay for it regardless of price.
Miles and Phoenix had both agreed to go to Themis Legal Academy. It was basically a high school, but only have about four years, and it was also a law school and even a college crammed into one, so they didnt have to wait in long lines to get accepted in Harvard, Brown, Ivy, or any other college.
After this and at dismissal, they immediately went to the library to study the law books, along with biology, health, calculus, history, advanced linguistics, and other books one would expect a high school, college and/or a law school would have.
They had borrowed said books and went on studying. Phoenix having stayed with Miles and his dad for the month.
Phoenix is quite fond of Gregory. He was much like Miles, or vice versa.
He appreciates good literature from Dickens to the Bronte sisters. He was also a great tutor in law, but the two boys taught themselves the majority on law, though it never hurt that Gregory was there to give pointers in being an attorney.
Once right after they graduated the elementary and middle school division, the latter being covered by the gifted program, they were accepted into Themis Legal Academy.
On the first day, many students were surprised two little boys, almost seven or eight, attending this strict high school, but they excelled and then some.
The two boys were quite happy with the circular and the education, always getting the highest score, tied for number one in each subject.
Many students and even staff were envious of the boys, but the two were so kind and helpful, the jealousy died down once they were able to get tutoring from the little ones.
Manfred often lectured in the prosecutor's course and Phoenix shook his head, thinking Why can't he use good evidence for trials? Why must he teach others to forge and manipulate?
You see, Manfred wasn't an honest prosecutor. Always forging evidence and manipulating witnesses and the court staff to get his way.
Phoenix was disgusted, though he figured no one would believe an autistic freak as him, as were the words Manfred used to him.
Phoenix had stopped asking for Manfred or even Mabel to buy things and even stopped eating the food that was bought with Manfred's pay.
He believed it to be dirty money. He despised it. So, he had brought it upon himself to volunteer around the neighborhood, getting odd jobs, and earning money. Money that was earned honestly.
Many of these were tutoring jobs and many of them paid rather handsomely.
But there was also lawn mowing, car washing, pet sitting, dog walking, helping bring in groceries for the elderly, etc.
