Chapter 42

Tonight I'm being dragged to the clearing to watch the wolves and the Cullens train against the apparent upcoming newborn vampire army . Yeah . I know . Exciting, right ? James , Kendal , and Alek are making a point to be just as involved in keeping me safe as everyone else and so they'll probably be there as well . 

" Come on , Kathy . " Jacob said tugging on my hand gently. 

" I don't WANT to go and I don't WANT to walk . " I whined .

He rolled his eyes and then went behind a few trees .

" You better be wearing pants ! " I said , shaking my head .

Jacob came out as a giant russett wolf and licked my hand .

" EW  ! That's repulsive and disgusting ! " I snapped .

The wolf rolled it's eyes and then he got down and whimpered .

" You want me to .... ride you ?" I asked , crossing my arms .

The wolf nodded and I sighed , sliding my leg over Jacob .

" I can't believe I'm doing this . " I grumbled , sititng on him , grabbing onto his fur.

" Alright .... well ... MUSH ! " I said and Jacob started running towards the Cullens .

I leaned down and clung to his neck , watching the leaves blur by . 

" You're riding a giant wolf . You're riding a giant wolf . You are RIDING A GIANT WOLF ! " I said to myself .

Jacob looked up at me with an amused look in his wolfy eyes . 

" What are you lookin at ? Go . Mush. " I said , scolding him .

The wolf shook it's head and  we finally got t the clearing . Once we came into sight , Emmett Cullen and Jasper burst out laughing . 

" Ride em' cowgirl ! " Emmett called , still laughing .

" Shut up , Emmett . " I said as Jacob stopped .

I slid off of him and everyone was holding back laughter .

" Damn supernatural . " I hissed , seeing Alek .

I ran over and he pulled me into a hug , twirling me around .

" I've never seen an entrance quiete like that before . " he chuckled .

I rolled my eyes .

" Don't go there . It was ride or walk . "

" You know, Kathy , walking isn't such a bad thing . " James said , hugging me .

Kendal and I looked at him like he was crazy .

" Uh ... yeah it is ! " we both said and then high fived eachother .

I saw Danica over with Embry and Quil . 

" Alright , now that we're all here .... " Carlisle said.

Apparently the Cullens had talents or something  and Edward was going to be translating for the wolves since he could read minds . Wierdo . I sat down in the grass , ignoring them as they talked and trained . Alek , Kendal and James sat on one side and Seth and Jacob sat on the other . I stretched out , using Jacob as a pillow and Alek as a footstool . I tuned them out and tied some flowers in a knot , making a necklace for James and thew some rocks at Kendal . After the meeting , Jacob and I decided to take a walk . Alek was very uncomfortable with the idea of me going back to La Push since Victoria was still on the lose , but I had to tell him that I'd be fine several times. Finally , he let it go and left with the others and Jacob and I walked on the beach . 

" Kathleen , you know ... you can talk to me about anything . " he said honestly .

I sighed , nodding .

" I know . " I said .

" Are you sure ? I mean .... I love you . I really do . I know you don't like the word or the feeling , but I can't help what I feel for you and all I want is to make you happy. " he said nervously .

" Look , I've never really ... had a relationship . It's not your fault or anything , it's mine . " I said .

He pulled me into a hug .

" I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I know that . But I also want you to feel comfortable and so I'll take it really slow if that's what you want . " he said .

I looked down and then looked up at him .

"  I love you , Jacob . " I said quietly .

He looked surprised , but looked back at me and pulled me into a long kiss . For once , I kissed back , letting him wrap his arms around me as I tangled my hands in his hair. After that , we pulled back and he smiled , brushing a stray hair out of my face . 

" I got this for you . " he said, handing me necklace .

It had a wolf charm and a silver " J " charm on it . I really didn't like gifts , but this was alright . I smiled as he slid it around my neck and clasped it behing my hair .

" Thanks . " I said .

He looked back down at me , not losing his smile .

" No problem . I made it myself . Well ... the wolf charm anyways. " he said .

" So .... " I said, trailing off.

" Are we offical ? " he asked me , waiting paitently for my answer .

" Last time someone asked me that, they kissed Leah Clearwater behind my back . " I said sarcastically.

" I would never hurt you . " he said honestly , looking into my eyes .

"  That's what everyone says . " I muttered. 

" But I'm not everyone . You're my im---- " I cut him off .

" I know . I know , I'm your imprint . But I'm also human . Please don't label me . I don't want you to care about me because you have to or because I'm your imprint . I want you to care about me because you geniunely care . " I said . 

He nodded and bent down , kissing me again . Once he pulled back, he gave me a small smile. 

" I do geninuenly care about you . " he said .

I nodded.

" I know. "

" So ..... what about Alek ? " he asked .

I stopped dead in my tracks . I hadn't even thought about Alek . Oh no ! Alek !

" He's uh ... dammit ! . " I sighed , burrying my face in my hands as I started to tear up .

What was I going to do ? It was Alek we were talking about . Alek . My Alek . Alek . Alek who'd been there for me . Alek who'd helped me . Alek who was my best friend and ....... Alek who could make me feel alive again. And I'd just plunged a dagger through his heart .
