"NICK?"
His eyes remained glued to the paper, unable to process what he was reading. Unable to look her in the eyes.
"Nick, you good?" Billie asked, her brows furrowed in concern. It wasn't common for Nick Goode to be distressed by Mail Day. And it was even less common for Billie Slater to show any signs that she was worried about anyone. "You're as white as those sheets."
It was true. His skin was pale, and his pupils dilated into big black circles. It was like he wasn't breathing at all. Whatever was in that letter from Grandpa Goode — a very creepy man as far as Billie remembers — had seriously spooked Nick.
