Feet slipping on the ground for what seemed the millionth time, you balance yourself against a rock formation, walking along the side of it. Until you feel a breeze hitting your face.

A cave.

You go in, sighing at finally being able to not be walking in the rain like you had been for what seemed like hours to you. Going to the back of it you sat down in the dirt looking out from the opening of it.

You had hoped that you put enough space between you and Gene, but you were just so tired.

Laying down on your side, you listened to the sound of the rain outside, trying to stay awake, curling into yourself in an attempt to keep warm since what you were wearing was soaked through by now.

"I could just close my eyes for a second," you said aloud, feeling as if there was a weight on your eyes, making it hard to keep them open, as drowsiness washed over you. Closing your eyes just for a second, just to rest them wouldn't be so bad.

"We've searched everywhere, except the outskirts," Paul said, looking off into the distance of the land that seemed to be surrounded by mountains and rocks.

"Ok, then let's do that," Eric said, trying to shake the water from his hair but to no avail since it was still raining.

They knew that Ace and Peter were checking the other cabins but didn't hear any outcry.

Maybe when they heard Gene's outcry they bolted, wouldn't blame them, Paul thought, as his eyes searched out into the darkness and sighing following Eric and Tommy to search the perimeter. Feeling an ache in the back of his throat the entire time reminding him that he would have to feed soon.

Well if we find anything on the way it wouldn't hurt to stop for a second, just a second, he thought, as his nose caught a scent off into the distance, as he broke off from Eric and Tommy to follow it.

Stopping just beyond it his eyes in the darkness made out a sleeping form, the scent making the ache in the back of his throat almost stronger. Creeping closer, he knelt down to grab the person as they turned to their side, their eyes open. Almost in surprise, as the woman blinked and then a smile came on her face.

"Paul? Is that you?" you said, as he stopped what he was doing and took a step back in surprise.

The scent was all wrong. This is y/n.

You came up to your full standing height and quickly wrapped your arms around him, as he wrapped both of his around yours loosely. You squeezed him, resting your head against his shoulder and closed your eyes.

"I didn't think I was going to see you again. I didn't know if you knew where I was,"

"I know, but I found you, you're going to be ok," he said quietly with little emotion in his voice as you looked up at him and saw that he looked surprised.

"What? What's wrong?"

You saw that he went to swallow, but noticed something else as well. His breaths were shallow as if he wasn't trying to breath much.

"Your scent, I was hungry when I was looking for you, I thought. I didn't recognize that it was you. I thought, well. No, you are human. Your scent has changed," Paul said as you moved back a bit from his loose hold on you.

"What are you talking about? I'm not human..." you said as you realized that must be why your powers didn't work. You don't have them anymore.

"And I'm hungry and I shouldn't be near you right now," he said, pulling away as you looked up at him.

Putting your hand against the side of his neck and pulling him closer to you. Rubbing your thumb in circles in a soothing way.

"No, I trust you," you said pulling him down to you, kissing him, feeling one of his hands go to the back of your head, holding it in place, as he moved your head to the side. Sucking on the side of your neck, bringing the blood closer to the surface.

"I won't take much I promise," he said before biting into your flesh, the pain was short lived though replaced by a pleasurable sensation racking your body. His arm going around your waist, holding you closer to him as he drank from you slowly.

He pulled away from your neck just a bit, licking your neck clean of your blood. And looking down at you, noticing how much better he already seemed to look despite the little amount of blood that he took.

Both his hands went to the back of your head, holding eye contact with you.

"We can make this work, I'm sure of it, we'll make this work," he said almost as if he was trying to reassure himself of that statement rather than it trying to be comforting. Leaning down and kissing you again, as you tasted your blood on his lips.

Only pulling apart at a presence in the cave, from the snap of a twig within the entrance of it.

"Nothing like telling us you found her," Eric said as Paul pulled away from you. You could see the combined look on both Tommy and Eric's faces. Their eyes narrowing just for a second as realization sets in from them at your scent.

That you were now human.

Which you didn't think would be something to worry about. Except now you were the only human in this little group of yours. That didn't worry you.

But it could be worrying them.
