dance with the moon

late at night, all the lights have gone out by now

but on top of the hill, two more are still awake

the landscape lit up by the full moon, by the stars, their footsteps chase each other back and forth.

one with gentle, smooth hands, stained a little by the ink she uses so much. the other with rough, calloused hands from many days on the wide open ocean

their eyes capture each other and everything in between, whenever they stop moving it's to touch their lips together ever so gently

dancing to unheard music, close enough to feel each other breathing, tired eyes soft and sparkling with the light of all the stars

under the wide open sky with clouds as big as ocean waves, they don't let go, not even for a second. power and energy, elegance and a shield of emotionlessness have no place here

they twirl each other in and out, until one grips the other and pulls her down to the grass under them.

curled up in each other's arms, their eyes wander about the stars, neither one wanting to get up and leave.

even as the cold breaks through them, they don't let go. one might think taking off into the air while holding hands is hard, but it's not. not for them.

riding the wind like a current, back down to their home, where they slip inside unnoticed. no lights are needed- the moon is still with them, brightening their path

the blankets are warm and comfortable, but even they can't match the feeling of their fingers interlaced as they lie down together

like it has been all night, neither of them needs to say a word. close enough that they could read each other's minds, they come closer and closer, holding each other tightly as their eyes close. without even saying it, the statement slips into the air and keeps them warmer than any blanket could.

"i love you," say their eyes, the light of the stars. the memory of being on top of that mountain, footsteps following each other to an unheard beat. say their hands, still together. say every part of them, both of them, in perfect sync with each other. their love is something stronger than even the seven archons combined.

carried away by the moonlight filtering in through the window, they drift off together. never letting go, even in the abyss of dreams.

"i love you."
