"Finally I got some time for myself." I took a sip of my blueberry shake.
"Poor you," Navya said
It was Saturday, and we were both sitting in a cafe for brunch. These past few weeks have been really hectic, and I finally got this Sunday off, so I decided to spend it with my best friend.
"Only 2 months are left until the wedding. I hope everything goes well." We were working day and night to manage all of the things.
It was great catching up with Navya. We talked after so many days about so many things. It was really the stress buster that I needed. I had made a plan of watching a movie with her, but before I could convey my plan.
"Hello, pretty ladies!" Cabir came from behind and ate the French fry that Navya was about to put in her mouth.
"Hi Cabir, how come you are here?" I was surprised by his visit.
"Kyu mai apni girlfriend se milne nhi aa skta?" He frowned while taking the seat next to her.
"Nhi..coz vo abhi mere sath date par hai." I made a cross with my hand.
"She is my girlfriend; I can meet her whenever I want."He wrapped his hand around her shoulder and gave me a smug smile.
"Before being your girlfriend, she is my best friend, so back off." I jokingly showed my fork to him as a weapon.
"You are trying to snatch her from me."
Cabir made a dramatic face.
"She's already mine."
Navya was paying no heed to our banter; by now, she was accompanied by our usual bickering. She just rolled her eyes, probably thinking in her mind, "Inka toh roz ka hai."
"Btw, Cabir, I am happy to see you, but this was a girls' day out."
"Navya only invited me." He pointed towards my best friend as she slowly gulped her drink, knowing that it was supposed to be just a girls' day out. I just looked at her, waiting for an answer.
"Actually, as these days we didn't get enough time to be with each other, I thought that after meeting you, I could spend some time with him."She gave clarification.
'Understandable'. I gave her a smile, to which she also responded with a bit of guilt.
I know she is my best friend and she'll be there for me whenever I need her, but as now she's in a relationship, her priorities have shuffled a bit, which is alright as that's how things work when you are dating someone.
"I'll take my leave then. You guys have fun." Picking up my bag, I smiled at both of them.
"Nandini, you can stay. I am sorry; I was supposed to spend today with you but..." Navya genuinely spoke.
"Yesss, I won't mind sharing Navya with you just for today." Cabir shrugged
"Be grateful that I am allowing you to be with her." I acted as Navya's mom.
He just joined his hands and lowered his head
"My blessings are with you." I showed them my palm as a part of blessing them ,and started to leave
"Accha, Nandini, listen.." Cabir called from behind. "Manik can drop you home," he said casually.
'Umm..what?'
Cabir signalled me to turn back, and there he was, Mr. Malhotra, taking his coffee from the counter. Looking dapper as always in his suit.
These past weeks I didn't meet him much . Or whenever we meet it was just plain greeting nothing more .
