Morning came and the survivors rushed to the kitchen, sitting at the dining table. Eli slid a plate of bread to the middle of the table and Martha handed out bowls. They all began eating and Tracy hung her head low, picking at her food. Vera noticed and took the spoon from her hand.
"C'mon Tracy, open wide." she asked, holding the spoon in front of her.
Tracy sniffled but complied. She smiled at Vera and leaned her head against her shoulder.
"You know, it's still fucking crazy that more and more people are dying. Like first Emma, then Kurt, then Mike, José, Victor and Andrew. Like what the fuck is happening?" Naib pointed out.
"I just hope nobody else dies..." Lucky muttered.
A couple of minutes passed and Emily looked up and down the table.
"Umm, have you guys seen Edgar and Luca anywhere? They didn't come to breakfast." she mentioned.
"Yeah, I saw their chairs empty but I didn't know whether to bring it up or not." Naib replied, stretching his arms and leaning back in his chair.
Emily looked down the corridor and tapped her chin.
"Hey Vera?"
Vera turned to her and raised her brow.
"Could you check on them and bring their food? Maybe they're still asleep." Emily requested.
Vera groaned, hanging her head and hitting the table lightly, standing up.
"Fine..."
"Um... Vera, could I come with you?" Tracy asked, tugging Vera's sleeve.
"Of course sweetheart, let's go."
Vera picked up their bowls, handing one to Tracy and left the table. They slowly walked down the hallway, towards Luca's room. Tracy knocked on the door and they waited.
No response.
"Luca! Luca are you in there?" Vera called, knocking again.
She bent over and peeked through the keyhole. She couldn't see him. She slowly opened the door and they went inside.
He's not there.
His inventions were scattered on the floor and on his desk, looking as if they weren't touched for a long while. They wandered around the room, looking around.
The aura in the room was ominous. Something was off and they didn't like it.
"I-I don't like this, can we leave?" Tracy whispered, holding onto Vera.
"Yeah... I don't think we should stay here. It feels weird..."
They went back down the hallway.
"Let's tell Emily that we can't find him, then we'll go to... Edgar's room."
They returned to the kitchen and Emily turned to them.
"Are they not there?" she asked.
"Luca isn't, but we're gonna check Edgar's now." Vera exclaimed.
"I'll look around the garden and see if he's there."
Emily left.
"God... why does Luca's room feel so... strange?" Vera mumbled. "It's dark and everything is all over the place. His bedsheets, his curtains are all wonky and just a lot of things are out of place. I hope he's doing ok."
"Me too." Tracy said, nodding.
"Alright, let's check Edgar's room. He's probably painting." Vera scoffed.
