The locker room door creaked open and both Nix and I collapsed on the ground from exhaustion.
Earlier we had to run to school because Salman and Kiya both started arguing if the worm we found on the side walk was named Tibbins or Poe.
"We don't have any groceries left." I blurted as I rested my face on the floor. When things were bad, it was the best time to add more necessary bad news.
Beside me, Nix groaned and weakly lifted her leg and kicked the floor, "I hate grocery shopping and what's worse is trying to cook."
I laughed weakly, "Don't worry, I remember very well." I referred back to when Nix somehow managed to glue her hands to the microwave and hang upside down from the ceiling, and that was when she was just warming food up. Del or I had to supervise Nix from now on in the kitchen. I was only slightly better at cooking, Nix on the other hand was an absolute disaster. Not being able to differentiate between salt and sugar, putting large chunky carrots bits in her omelete trying to cut Squash with a butter knife.
After we both quickly changed, Nix pulled her red, curly hair up in a ponytail and I tied a red bandana around my head since it would start falling apart from the pony tail.
The class all congregated on the pavement top which was in severe need of renovation. Several people had fallen while running on it and let's just say it didn't leave their faces looking too good.
Once everyone arrived, or mostly everyone did, we made our way to the football field and started running. Today Nix and I both finished the laps before everyone else despite already running a bit. I guess it had kicked in the endorphins.
After our third lap, we collapsed onto the wet turf and laid there. Most of the class was still on their second lap so we had a good few minutes to rest. I laid my entire body back against the ground, feeling the soft green grass on my finger tips, tickling my arms and one of my hands laid on my chest which was moving up and down heavily.
Out of nowhere, something fell on my face, completely blinding me and scaring me.
"What the hell?" I pulled it off my face in anger and looked back to see our coach standing there.
"Start handing out the pennies. We're playing capture the flag." He yelled at me the others must've heard it as well because an asynchronized chorus of groans came from where the class was still going at it. I rolled my eyes and picked it up and began sorting the pennies out into their different colours.

The school day was thankfully nearly finished. I walked into the black box with a dress from the1950s and kitten heels.
One of my group members, Chloe, had unfortunately found me during lunch and forced me into the costume way earlier than I was supposed to. It smelled like an old book and was madly suffocating. Looking back, the chips and guac I had was definitely was one of the worst decisions of my life.
The dress was white, cinched at the waist and had half sleeves. The shoes were just plain black heels that were two sizes larger than my size and would slip off my feet with every step I took. Finally, for my hair, Chloe had curled and pinned it back like the way they used to in the 50s, making me look a complete idiot. Once I walked out the bathroom and did the walk of embarrassment on my way to the theatre, people were staring at me and some even laughed.
I sat in the theatre black box on the steps of the proscenium stage, waiting for everyone else to show up.
The door of the black box burst open and in walked Alice, looking like a completely different human being. As opposed to her waist long hair being mostly open, it was now tied up in a low bun. A tight T-shirt, trousers and a chunky belt around her waist, all part of her costume.
