I was on my way to meet my old friend, Ruhi. I could have booked a cab for myself, but i was missing riding on the bus. I was standing at the bus stop. There were many people there today.
The sun was too bright to my liking, i was having hard time keeping my eyes full open.
I didn't even have my sunglasses in the bag.
Soon bus came and i got on it and even get a seat.
I was sitting beside a hijabi too.
I got off when my stop came.
I looked up in the sky it looks like it's going to rain, just few minutes ago the sky was clear. I started walking with longer strides to reach at her house before it starts raining.
I rang the door bell. Her mother opened the door.
"Assalamualaikum auntie" i greered with a wide grin on my face.
"Walekumassalam beta... come come" she greeted getting surprised by seeing me on the door. "Itne time ke baad aayi ho.. aati kyun nahi thi" she asked.
"Auntie woh mai yahan par thee nahi wrna zarur aati" i told her scratching my neck.
" how are you?" I asked her.
"I am all good. How are you, and your family?" She asked back.
She is a vibe. Unlike other aunties who like gossiping.
"I am also good. And everyone is fine back in home too.. how about you come and meet them tomorrow" i suggested.
"No my child... i can't go, as you know Ruhi is always busy and not at home. I am alone here. If i go somewhere who will be at house?" She said.
" why ? Where is Ruhi?" I asked her.
"She has college and then she goes to give tution and return at night" She told me. Ruhi is still in college as she is a year younger. We used to be neighbors. But when her father died auntie and she came to her nani's and now they stay here. I used to come here every eid and sometimes even on holidays. We were like cousins.
I spent some time with her gossiping about random things. We were sitting on the rooftop as weather was nice.
And then suddenly it started drizzling and we rushed inside.
I was sitting by the window looking at the plant Ruhi and i planted together when we were kids in their small garden. Auntie was in the kitchen.
"What are you seeing?" She asked me comeing towards me grabbing cups in both hand. She offered a cup to me and sat infront of me.
" auntie do you remember ruhi and i planted this rose plant together and that random plant beside it together." I said reminiscing on my good old days.
"Yes i remember how you dug a hole to plant seeds but when an earthworm came out both of you came to me screaming." She chuckled.
" auntie that was scary" i said glancing away.
She started laughing.
My face flushed red from embarrassment "Auntieee".
Suddenly i heard a knock on the main door. And the door opened, auntie and i peeked to see who has entered. When i saw some lady entering. I went near her tip toeing. And stand beside her. She was removing her abaya and was about to hang in on a hook. When she turned towards me "BOOO" i shouted jumping near her. "WAAAAH" she screamed at the top of her lungs. I bursted in to laughter seeing her scream and falling after losing her balance from getting scared.
"Natasha?" She called my name in very low voice that i couldn't even hear it properly but still nodded grinning at her.
She took off her shoe and threw it at me "ow" shoe hit me on my arm." Stop hitting me with your dirty shoes" i told her in a firm tone."yeah, sure!"she said sarcastically taking off the other shoes from her leg and threw that at me again " ouch! Stop it" i was holding on my arm where this idiot has threw her shoes twice.
Kicking her i said " you should not beat the guest.. learn some manners."
"Don't hit me, you deserved that" she said looking away from me pouting while streching her hand out for me to pull her to stand up.
And i did so. I pulled her with a jerk and she stood up i didn't let go of her hand. I grabbed her waist and start pulling her closer "it's been too long, didn't it?" I said looking into her eyes. I had a lopsided grin on my face.
"Ikr, i missed you so much" she said fluttering her eyelashes.
She looked so funny, i pressed my lips, trying not to laugh. As she saw me holding in my laughter she herself bursted into laughter, when she tried to suppress her laugh, she made a sputtering sound like an old water faucet. I couldn't hold my laughter anymore and both of us laughed till tears started rolling down our cheeks.
We were looking like tomatoes.
She changed her expression real quick.
"done?" She said giving me a blank stare, then started to remove her socks.
"Uhm, done" i said nodding.
I was thinking about leaving as i have met with her now and it was getting late now.
We prayed asr together. I was feeling as i have come back in time. I didn't want to care about my current problems and businesses.
I told her that i am going to get married soon. She was all excited.
She kept jumping around like a three year old.
"The one who is getting married is me, why are you so happy?" I asked her. She stoped jumping and looked my way.
" then you too be happy who is stopping you?" She said giving me a dirty look.
She came and sat on the bed. " it has been almost like 10-12 years since i have attended a family wedding" she said looking at me with broad grin on her face.
"I will finally get to be a bridesmaid. I will get to wear a beautiful dress. I will get to enjoy haldi, mehendi, every event." She was so excited that she couldn't even expess.
I wasn't as excited for my wedding before than now i have become after listening to her plans.
" wow, now you will manage everything" i said smiling at her, trying to lessened her excitement a bit.
" will you pay me?" She asked,smiling back.
" what to you think?" I asked smile not leaving my face.
" you will" she said, her smile broaden.
"No!" I said closing my eyes while smiling.
She shift back huffing, closing her eyes she rest her head on headboard. "Kajoos" she muttered in low voice.
"Whatever" i replied getting off the bed.
I shake her leg, she didn't respond. I hit her leg, she didn't respond again.
"Aree.. you dead, brother, brother are you dead?" I shaked the soul out of her.
She raised her back "WHAT THE HELL" she screamed. "Brother i have to go home now" i told her grinning.
"You bitch-" she grabbed a pillow and hit me on my face with it.
I moved few steps back as i lost balance.
Auntie opened door of the the room.
"What happened?" She asked worriedly. she must have come here because of Ruhi's scream.
I looked down acting innocent,
While ruhi had to give explanation.
"Don't shout atleast, you guys still act like kids". She came from in between her cooking to check on us. And just confirmed if everything was okay and left again.
After she left i asked her to walk me to bus stop. Auntie asked me to stay at their's for tonight and that she will convince my father, but i denied respectfully and told her i would stay some other time.
Ruhi and i were waiting at the bus stop.
"Ruhi its late, you should go,my bus will come in some time and there is already a family waiting here so I'm not alone" it wont be safe for her if she goes back after me. " no I'll wait" she doesn't listen.
" no you will go" i said and pushed her away from stop.
"Go already, i can go from here" i said
"Okay okay, call me when you reach home" she said.
" yeah you too. Call me when you reach home." I told her.
"Bye Allah Hafiz" i said waving at her.
" Allah Hafiz" she said waving back and left.
