Truth is sometimes hard to swallow

I thought I would've been greeted with the peaceful chirping of birds, waking us up from the windowsill with their usual overly-cheerful disposition. I thought I would've been blinded away by the first rays of sunshine glowing past Monteriggioni's walls. I thought we'd have good weather. But instead, I was slowly brought back from dreamland to the sound of water droplets hitting the transparent glass of the window. Groaning, I slowly raised my head towards the window, creaking an eye open to see what was going on. Angry clouds decorated the skies, an almost complete contrast to yesterday's beautiful weather. I sighed. Goddammit...this would've been a perfect day to stay inside, just...grab a book, a glass of wine, and lay back on the couch. But, alas, duty calls. But.....fuck it, 5 more minutes.

I proceeded to lie on my back, and for a few moments, I just looked up at the ceiling, examining the framing holding the roof up. The structure was different, I noted. Though similar in appearance, including a main pillar holding the roof up in the middle of the room, I could see that the wooden framing had reinforced, in a way, a change likely specified by Leandro after witnessing the destructive damage caused to the roof by that rogue cannonball. It wasn't all that unlikely – I knew how much my baby wanted to rebuild this place. But the memories hurt. And, thank god, I was snapped out of my thoughts by calloused fingers slowly, teasingly, caressing up my arm. I couldn't help but feel the corners of my lips curl upwards into a smile.

"Good morning, Ezio..." I softly muttered out, to which I only got a soft hum as reply. I felt him shift closer, until he finally rested his head on my shoulder. And instantly, I wrapped my arm around his shoulders to pull him closer. I loved him....God, I loved him...

"....it is still so early..." he finally said after a few moments of silence. "I don't want to get up..."

"I know..." I smiled tenderly. "This would be a great morning to stay in. But you know we can't."

"I know, I know..." he muttered out as he moved closer, and I couldn't help but close my eyes in bliss as his full lips gently caressed my neck. "5 more minutes..." ....well, guess some things never change. I leaned into his affectionate kisses, relishing in his gentle touch. Then, at long last....I felt his lips against mine. ....fuck it, make that 10 minutes... I smiled into the kiss as I felt him roll on top of me, the sheets around us draping down his back like a makeshift tent. His lips and caresses were so heavenly that they almost made me forget what was coming. Almost. I let out a sigh of pleasure as his lips began to explore south. Oh well...I could always worry about that later.

"Good morning, you two!" Rebecca exclaimed with her usual cheerful disposition as she entered the kitchen. "God, I'm starving."

"You're right on time!" Ezio returned the smile as he placed his freshly-make pancakes on a plate. "Pancakes a la Ezio coming out."

"Add a cup of black coffee and I'm good..." I looked past Becca to see Shaun, his hair a disheveled mess. I couldn't help but smile at the sight.

"I'll take care of it." I offered, and immediately, I got up from my chair to brew his coffee. Silence reigned in the room for a while, before I finally decided to speak. "Sorry about...back then." I said softly, sincerely. "We didn't know you two were a thing."
