It felt like everyone else's world had been turned upside down in light of a spaceship crashing into Big Ben, but all it did for Penelope was force her to go home early. The owner of the book shop wanted a closer look but didn't want to leave her alone.
She walked back into her building and got straight into the lift, grateful that it was already there. Not quite looking, she pressed the button for her floor, relying on muscle memory as she decides what she's going to do for the day.
Stepping out of the lift, she made her way though the double doors and down the corridor, taking a quick glance at the view on her left, it was then she realise. Stopping and sighing she turned around, having finally realised that she was one floor too high.
The double doors leading to the lift swung open and the two people from the lift ran through. She knew now that it was absolutely Rose Tyler and assumed that she was who Jackie was shouting at earlier.
The man stopped, staring at her, trying to understand how he's met this girl twice in one day. She smiled politely as they were blocking each other's path. Moving to the side so they could get past, she managed to get around them quicker then she thought she would. But unfortunately the man called out to her again.
"Hey! What are you doing up here?" She turned around, heart beating wildly as she knew she couldn't escape this time.
"Sorry, I live the next floor down but I pushed the wrong button." He turned his entire body towards her.
"You got pretty far before you realised." A soft, embarrassed blush settled on her face, to contrast the burning red on her ears.
"I guess I was lost in my own head, not sure what to do now work is closed." He nodded, but even as she continues to not look him in the eyes, she can tell he isn't convinced for one reason or another. The Tyler's door opened behind the two people and Jackie popped her head out.
"Would you two get inside." She stopped when she saw Penelope, stepping out further into the hallway. "Hello. Penelope, right? You live the next floor down."
"Uh, yeah. Sorry I just came to the wrong floor."
"It's okay. Would you want to come in and watch the news with us, it's all about them aliens in Big Ben." Penelope shot her head up, she hadn't ever really been invited anywhere by anyone since moving here.
"Are you sure? I don't want to be a bother, I was just going to go downstairs and read until it blows over." The man made a face, and she sensed that she said something wrong.
"Now why would you do that? History is happening at your doorstep." She shook her head at the man.
"Not my doorstep, not really. We will probably get lied to if they do find anything in there and even if they don't, what am I going to do. Sure it would probably be amazing, but they don't even know I exist." The man looks fairly downcast at the answer and Jackie storms forward past him, taking hold of her arm.
"Come along Penelope, no one deserves to be alone when something like this happens." Penelope was only able to stutter out a few grievances as she was dragged past the two other people, making short eye contact with the man again before being pulled away.
But those two - maybe less - seconds of looking into his eyes felt like an eternity, he looked like the night sky.
