As requested by @-INCUBUS, here's how I match colour schemes of a background and character!

First of all, I usually just throw whatever I have to make a background. Whichever textures I find that look cool, I just use them! Then I put in my render and take note of the colours used it in. I'd then pick a colour from the render, and colour a whole layer behind the render so it covers the background. You can pick the colour by using the brush tool in ibisPaint and hold over that specific colour you want, and you'll save it.

After that, set the blending mode of that coloured layer to either 'hue' or 'colour', whichever you feel like doing.

After that, I find that it still isn't enough and go to pick another colour from the render and do the same thing. But this time, above the render instead of below it. Then change the blending mode to either 'hue' or 'colour', and mess around with its percentage clarity to see what fits it best.

Completely optional next step, but I enjoy using this specific texture found on xnienke's DeviantArt profile and using it as an overlay layer on around 80% of the graphics I make lol

I find that it helps to make my graphics look less dull(and it also looks really cool too haha). Just make sure to erase the parts that are covering the render, which is the focus of your graphic!

Sometimes, I use a mix of colours to make the whole colour scheme. But it honestly depends on the type of graphic you're going for, and what colours you think work best for it. An example of this case is this cover I made a couple months ago.

A mix of colours can work well together! The purples I got from the render's hair and clothes, and the yellow comes from her eyes

If it still doesn't look good enough, I recommend using filters as well. Apps like Polarr are amazing, because there are filters in a featured tab and you can go and save to enhance the qualities of certain aspects of your graphic, and make some specific colours stand out.

Here's an example of me using... quite a number of filtered versions of the cover lol. I usually just change the percentage clarity of all versions to find the one I like the most(ignore the overlay layer, that's another thing entirely that I'll cover in a different chapter).

And that's it! I hope it helps you. Thanks for reading this and have a great day/night!
