Five - Apologies

Violet Mae POV

Lunch. Yet again.

Not my favorite time of the day anymore. Especially since the other day with Shawn and his brothers.

Why he had to be such a dick is beyond me.

Olivia said it might be because it's just in his nature. But I'm starting to think that he just did that for his own personal gain.

I'm not sure what that might be, but I'm sure there there is something he really wanted and got from doing that.

And to top things off, he followed me on Instagram. I looked on his profile, and all the pictures he had were with what I assume are ex girlfriends. The last one taken last year around this time, meaning he's been single for a year.

Ouch.

The three of us, Olivia, Nico, and I, were just sitting at our table, chatting away, when I see the idiot and his brothers coming our way.

We stop talking as I turn my head to look at them as they approach our table, trays in hands. However, they stop at the table without sitting down.

"I'm sorry," Shawn says, only looking at me. "I didn't mean to be such a dick before. It was never my intention. I would love to...start over with you, if you would allow it. If not, I completely understand."

My eyes widen, and the three of us exchange glances, before I look back at Shawn.

"I uh...suppose you could be forgiven...only if you're being sincere and not pulling my leg," I reply, looking from him, to my friends, and back again.

"I never mess with people when I apologize. And thank you." He gives me a sheepish smile before Turing to walk away, his brothers following.

"Hey," Olivia calls out, looking at me, then Nico, and back at me before winking. "Where are you guys going?"

The three of them turn around, looking at Liv, who's smiling.

"Huh?" One of Shawn's brothers - Ashton, I think - asks, looking around our table.

"Where are you guys going?" Liv repeats. "Come sit at our table. As long as you won't be an ass about it."

I watch as the three brothers exchange looks with one another before Shawn looks at me and asks, "Are you alright with us sitting with you?"

I shrug. "Free country."

My opinion of him didn't change in an instant, but he is human, and he jumped to conclusions. Made a mistake. We all do that.

Chances are, he heard something from Rachel and assumed it to be true. I wouldn't be surprised, and because of that, I can't be too mad at him. He obviously doesn't know true from false in this instance.

They sit down, and since the table was round, it caused Shawn to sit beside me, and the blonde haired brother to sit by Nico, the one with glasses in the middle.

Most people wouldn't think they're brothers, not until they see their piercing blue eyes. That instantly gives away the fact that they're siblings.

"So..." Shawn says, not looking up. "What was the deal with that guy all over your Instagram?"

For some reason, this makes me want to laugh, but I don't, since the situation isn't funny at all. "We aren't that close."

He sighs and looks at me. "Fair enough. I deserve that."

I laugh at that, since it is kind of funny.

Silence falls over us, and I decide to listen in on the others' conversation.

"Seriously?" Liv laughs, covering her mouth at something one of his brothers said.

"Yes!" replies the blonde. "I'm serious. He did that. Not only that, but posted the picture online."

"Oh no!"

Having absolutely no idea what they're talking about, I zone out and just stare at my tray, faintly listening to the chatter of the lunchroom.

Well, until I hear the click of high heels coming towards the table. Looking up, I see Rachel walking towards the table and staring at Shawn the entire time.

She stops and leans down in front of him, keeping her cleavage on full display as she talks. "Party Friday. Six o'clock. My place. You and your brothers are invited. You can each bring a plus one. Don't be late."

She glares at me, then walks away, not looking back once.

"What a bitch," Liv says, shaking her head and rolling her eyes. "She thinks she's the most important person in this school and that everyone cherishes her like a god. Some day she's going to wake up and realize most can't stand her. They only stick around to party."

"Who even is she?" Shawn's brother with glasses asks, looking after her, like he was trying to find out who she is.

"A rich bitch, that's who."

"But like, what's her name?"

"Rachel. Totally forgot her last name, but it doesn't matter, since you should stay away from her. She is bad news and a bully."

"How long has she lived here?"

"Uh..."

"I think since her fifth grade year," I reply, thinking back to when she first introduced herself to us. She hadn't been here for long at that point.

The blonde gasps. "She was Austin Jones's girlfriend in third grade! And her name was Phoebe back then."

"Huh? She changed her name?" Nico asks, on the verge of laughing.

"Must have. She said she didn't like her name."

"Oh my God!" Liv says. "She went from an innocent sounding name to a bitchy one. I mean, it fits her, but still. It's kind of funny."

"Yeah. Finally figured out why she looked familiar. She dated the third grade class clown."

"She is a clown," Nico grumbles, causing Liv to pat his hand to calm him down a bit.

"Are you gonna go to her party?" I ask Shawn, wondering if he would use the invitation. Most would.

"If you're going," he replies casually.

"Wasn't invited," I replied. She doesn't want me there.

"Then be my plus one. Make her mad, and make me happy."

"Huh?"

"You heard me. Go with me to the party, as friends. She'll probably get mad, and you get to party."

"Are you sure you want to use your plus one on me? You could invite literally anyone else."

"I don't really know anyone else. Not any more than I know you, Violet Mae."

"Um..." I look at Liv, who shrugs. "Sure, I guess that's okay."

"Great. I'll message you on Instagram with the details."

"Alright. Sounds like a plan."
