Fourteen - Dropping the News

Violet Mae POV

I called Shawn a half hour ago. Since then, both Olivia and Nico left, and my parents took my younger siblings out for dinner. I told them what I was doing and they decided to give us some privacy.

I'm not sitting on the couch in my living room, waiting for Shawn, who said he'd come once he got done dealing with some people at his work.

The sudden knock on the front door startled me. I hadn't been expecting it.

I get up and answer the door, to reveal Shawn standing there in his company t-shirt and dark wash jeans. Honestly, he looks hot.

He's not smiling, but instead giving me a worried look.

"You okay? You sounded worried over the phone. What's wrong?" He asks.

I let out a shaky sigh and lead him to sit on my couch. Sitting beside him, and take in a big breath before speaking.

"So, the other day, when I missed school, I wasn't feeling too well, so I went the doctor. Well..." Just spit it out. "The doctor ran some tests. Turns out I'm pregnant and it's my ex's."

Shawn's head shoots up so fast I thought he'd get whiplash. "Pregnant?!"

Not the reaction I was expecting.

Nervously I say, "Yeah. I waited so long to tell you because I didn't know how you'd react."

"Does he know?"

I shake my head.

His expression changes. "You told me before the father of your child?"

I nod.

"Why?"

"Because, if you wanted, and despite us not knowing where we are in this relationship, I was hoping you'd agree to being the father figure in my child's life." I pause to see his expression blank. Like he's thinking it over. "I know we're young, only seventeen, and you can say no but-"

He cuts me off my giving me a big hug and pulling me onto his lap during the process. He just holds me, rocking us side to side doing so.

It surprises me, but I say nothing. I want to hear what he has to say next.

Finally, after minutes, he speaks. "Violet," he pulls me away from him so we can see eye to eye. "I want you more than anything in this world, and if that means taking am unborn child with it, I'll do it. And as for the relationship, we can still work on that. I will adopt that child, even if we eventually leave each other, I will claim it as my own. Just so you don't have to worry about you ex even being allowed to see them. I'll do anything to keep you safe. And that goes for your child too."

I'm shook.

A man has never said words with such meaning to them, and knowing this guy, who I like more and more each day, wants both me and any problems I have with me, making my heart grow warm and fuzzy.

I hug him, tightly, refusing to let go even the slightest. "Thank you, thank you, thank you."

He just chuckles and holds me tighter. "Anything for you, Violet Mae Ross. Anything."

Shawn POV

So many thoughts about what was wrong with Violet ran through my head. However, not once did I even stop to think that she could be pregnant. It never occurred to me that she'd ever had sex. Let alone with that douch of an ex.

Not to mention the shock when she practically asked me to take her child in as my own.

By her reaction, I can tell she didn't expect me to say yes, but she was more than happy nonetheless.

I had asked who else knew and she said Olivia, Nico, and her parents were the only ones besides me who knew. She said I could tell my brothers and my family if I wanted, or she could. I told her I'd tell them since she has to tell the biological father of the child.

Her dad is going with her, so that's good news, since I'm legally not allowed to go, due to me not really being a part of either of their lives.

I stayed with her until her family returned, talked with her parents a bit, filling them in on what went down, before going home to my family.

As soon as I walked through the door, I told my mom and brothers what was going on. I wanted to tell them before I told Elliana since it is a delicate matter.

"Are you sure you're ready for the responsibility?" Mom asks. "I know you two aren't exactly dating, but let's say you do date. You've adopted the kid and are now on the birth certificate. Then something happens and you and Violet break up. You still technically have custody over the kid, until when and if Violet puts another man's name on the birth certificate. And besides that, you'd always be known as the child's parent. Not to mention you'll be helping raise the kid. Are you ready for that responsibility?"

I sigh. "Honestly, probably not. But I don't think Violet is either. I want her, Mom. So bad. And if that means becoming a dad before eighteen, then so be it."

Mom smiles and gives me a hug. "I knew I wasn't doing such a bad job raising all four of you on my own."

This mad both me and my brothers, who haven't said a word this entire time, smile.

"Do you want to tell Ellie, or should I?" Mom asks, looking up at me after a bit.

"Could you? You'll probably be able to explain things in a more understanding and kid-friendly way."

Mom nodded. "Go upstairs, all three of you. I'll see you later."

"Yes ma'am," Ashton says before we all go upstairs, him and Devyn following me to my room.

"Did you have any idea?" Devyn asks.

"About her being pregnant?" I ask, looking on my phone to see her text.

"Yeah."

I'm just gonna say this out right, I miss you.

I smile. "No, I didn't have a clue."

"What are you smiling about?"

"I'm gonna face time her."
