"Carter, we're going to be late," I complained.

"And you're going to expose us all," Carter responded. "Hold still." He was intensely focused on my Forbidden brand, which I thought I had done a good job of covering up.

"Ever occur to you that you have better vision than all of us, so you're the only one who can tell?" I asked as Carter added more foundation to my wrist.

"It doesn't hurt to make sure," said Carter, reaching for more foundation.

"What were you doing with Jerome the other day?" I asked suddenly. I could hear a small clink as Carter set the bottle of foundation back on the table.

"I think you're all good." Carter dismissed.

"Are you avoiding the question?" I asked.

"Are you interrogating me, Agent Matthews?" Carter replied instantly.

I opened my mouth to say something, but nothing came out.

"Can we get out of here?" Kiara interrupted. Kiara was the only resident of the penthouse who couldn't leave unsupervised, and she was more than happy to take any chance she had to be outside.

"Sure," Carter replied. "What could go wrong?"

A lot of things could go wrong with the four of us attending Evergreen University, and my brain had done me the disservice of running through every single one of them. Someone could post a picture of us and alert the Agency, that weird man from the cafe could actually be on to something, that fourth circle or whatever that seemed to be the only thing keeping the Agency from coming here could disappear-

But I needed to be doing something again. We all did.

Because I heard that Evergreen University was right by Central Park, I had assumed that it would be close to the penthouse. I had severely underestimated how big Central Park was. Taylor had to guide us through the subways again, and even though there were no buskers today, everyone seemed to be in a good mood.

"I don't get why I can't major in Portuguese," said Kiara. She let go of the subway pole as she spoke, and Taylor placed her hand back on the pole without even looking.

"Ki, if you literally grew up in Brazil and spoke it, it doesn't count," said Carter.

"They don't know that." Kiara protested. "It's not like we're going to college to learn things."

She did have a point.

"We can talk about classes later," said Taylor. "All we need to worry about is making it through the tour."

"It's like going undercover," said Carter. "It'll be fun."

"Going undercover isn't fun," I commented.
