(long author's note at the end! thank you for the wait!)

"so..."

"so..."

the two people at the table stared at each other in awkward silence. one of them had puffy cheeks from crying an hour before, and the other had wondering eyes that couldn't settle down on the person in front of them.

it was too difficult.

it was weird.

they had never met each other physically before, so it was new to the both of them. they couldn't just sit down and talk to each other like they did over text, because even then there was always banter between the two, all the time. but if they truly hated each other, they wouldn't be in the situation they were currently in.

"m-maybe i should go." loey finally spoke up.

she found it funny actually: it was the second that day she had to say that same line to a boy.

expecting the other to comply with the boy before, and say 'you should', she mentally prepared herself as she turned to grab her book bag from the floor.

except that wasn't the response she got.

"are you sure?"

loey paused, her eyes glued to the ground.

"what?"

"are you sure you're okay to leave on your own? are you emotionally okay to go back home?"

the girl could feel her heart rate increase at the sound of his words. ones that she wasn't ready to hear, especially from him.

no i'm not ready to leave. but don't do it. not in from of him loey, don't do it!

her brown and grey eyes lifted slowly to make eye contact with him as she felt tears stroll down her flushed cheeks. she wasn't sure she wanted to leave. she wasn't sure that she was okay enough to go home. she wasn't sure if she was ready to face her best friends with a crying face. but she didn't want to risk it. every time she spilled her problems onto someone, they either push her away after or just get burdened because they already had their own.

but everyone had problems in life.

there's just some people who knew how to deal with them better than others.

the silence lingered as the boy with round eyes stared at her. his hands scratched at his jeans anxiously as his foot tapped against the floor. thought he was surprised those words came from his lips. he wasn't going to say anything, but it didn't feel right.

it didn't feel right letting the girl go home in the state she was in. if she was sure she was fine or didn't want to talk, then that was a different story. but loey seemed troubled. it look like she had so much on her mind, but not enough courage to say anything.

there was something that wanted to break free from her crumbling grasp, but there was something behind it to pull it back if anything peaked through.

but it didn't feel right to just sit there either.

he barely knew the girl on any personal level, so maybe listening to her worries wasn't the best situation. but he knew he had to do something.

the girl shook her head softly as her cheeks turned pink again. "normally, i wouldn't let anyone besides my best friends see me cry, but it seems like i can't control my emotions anymore. i was fine—i really was! but then something happened with me and someone earlier, and it just made me think that i bother people too much. that i'm just another problem added to their cold world..."
