Chapter 19: Back to Work

Okay, we are getting into the romancey stuffz! YAY! I'm trying to connect this to romance I wrote earler so I'll do my best!

Two days later I returned to work. I was still wearing a case on my left arm, but my head was okay and my ribs were much better. 

"Masa's back!" Matsuda called happily. "How are you?" 

"Better," I replied with a smile. "My arm is still broken but other than that I'm fine." 

"Can I sign your cast?" 

"Um... sure. Why not?" I held out my arm for him and he eagerly signed his name in black sharpie. He added a smiley face at the end of it and I laughed slightly. 

L was sitting in a chair with a desk, three monitors, and three microphones in front of him.  

"What's new?" I asked. 

"Something's wrong with Light," he spoke. "He seems to have no clue what is happening, and he has been insisting that he is innocent non-stop." 

"Have the killings started again?" 

"Yes but we haven't told Light," L responded. I pulled up a chair and sat next to him, casting a glance at him out of the corner of my eye every now and again. He was so focused that he didn't notice me looking at him. 

I stayed there all afternoon till L sent me to my room, saying that I need my rest. I had rolled my eyes but listened to him anyways. 

June 21st, early in the morning. We sent a plan into action. L had told all of us, including Soichiro, his conclusion. Soichiro acted like he was driving Misa and Light to their execution, and told them that they had been found guilty. 

L and I watched through a monitor. We scrunched in next to eachother so we could each see what was happening. It was strange, being shoulder to shoulder with L. Strange, but not unpleasant.  

"From one murderer to another," Soichiro spoke, pointing the unloaded gun at Light's head. "I'll see you in hell." 

Light panicked and Misa made the funniest, strangest, weirdest scared face ever, but neither of them did anything to stop him. Soichiro fired the blank and they both looked around, confused. L spoke to them through the microphone and speakers, telling them that it was all a fake execution. Light agreed when L said that he needed to be by him 24 hours a day to make sure he wasn't Kira.  

A few hours later we were in another hotel room. L and Light had been handcuffed together, and Misa was complaining about it in an annoying, shrilly girl voice. 

"Wow," she said. "So this is what you meant when you said you would be by Light 24 hours a day. I didn't picture you like that when I saw you. Tell me Ryuzaki, are you on that side of the fence?" 

I snickered in my chair 

"I told you I'm not doing this because I want to," L sighed. "I have to do this so I can be sure that Light isn't Kira." 

"But if you two are handcuffed together then how are Light and I supposed to go on dates?" Misa asked. 

"Well you can still go on dates but I'll be with you," L explained. 

"WHAT! Does that mean that we have to kiss in front of you?" Her voice was becoming more winey by the second. 

"I'm not saying that you have to do anything but essentially yes, I suppose I would be watching." 

"EW GROSS!" Misa exclaimed. "You really are a pervert aren't you?!" 

"Light, please make Misa stop talking," L spoke in a quiet voice. I laughed even harder as Light told Misa to go along with it and that he wasn’t her boyfriend. I fell out of my chair when she started hitting him on the chest yelled "STUPID STUPID STUPID!!!!!!" L looked at me as I rolled around on the ground, laughing. He smiled a bit too. 

After a bit, Misa stormed out of the room.  

"Ryuzaki," Light spoke. "Moving hotels like this isn't very convenient." 

"Yes, that's what I was thinking," L nodded. "That's why I had them build a new base for us." He dragged Light across the room and brought up 3d blueprints of the new building. I gaped as I saw it. It was ginormous!  

"This is the new building," L spoke. "Misa should have no complaints, seeing as she has her own floor. So do you, Masayo." I smiled and looked them over with the rest of the task force. "We'll be moving into it as soon as possible."
