The next day, early in the morning Hazel asked if she could leave early. "yeah sure" , I said. Caleb still had some time until he heads out to his University. The moment Hazel stepped out of our house, Caleb pulled me along with him to the last room of our house and said, "listen, Rick. I want you to hear me out with all your consciousness and think it through." well it did seem weird at first because he never really said this until that day.
"yeah go on. I'm all ears" I said
"How long have you known Hazel for?" he asked
"oh so is it all about her?" I asked.
"yes it is about her!! just answer my damn question!!" he yelled.
"well calm down big man. I know her since the past one year i guess" I said.
"And you still don't know ANYTHING about her? like- nobody told you??" he asked
"of course I know about her. can you just come to the point?" I said
"yeah ,right. just one more question about her high school life. where did she complete her high school?" he asked
"I think it was somewhere across the country" I answered
"no. no it wasn't. she went to the same school as me and didn't even finish school. she was my senior who went missing suddenly and was later rumoured to be working with an underground team that leaked information about weapons and all. her name isn't even Hazel. it's June. if you don't believe me just tell me. i'll prove it to you" he said
"yeahhhhh i don't believe you it's all bullshit" I said
"okay give me a moment i'll call my girlfriend ,we will ask her about June. they were friends and if you still won't believe me, i'll call a senior from June's class next." he said.
he seemed pretty confident. his story was starting to convince me already because I've told Hazel or as Caleb said, June, my high school stories but she never even told one story about her high school. Caleb called up his girlfriend ,we asked her about June and she told us exactly what Caleb told me. we then called June's classmate, Mindy and she told the exact same thing. we even sent her the most recent photograph of June and Mindy confirmed that Hazel and June are the same people. however, she gave an extra information that June had a small bird tattooed on her wrist. Hazel has a bird tattoo on her wrist too. I was convinced and confused at the same time and couldn't process the whole situation going on.
"okay I hope you're convinced now. just one more question. did June ever take you to her home? like- to meet a family member or something like that?" Caleb asked.
"no. this one time I went with her, I was in the car outside her building. she told me to wait in the car herself but she never really talked about her family. she just said that she had an older brother and her parents in her family." I said
"And you didn't find all this even a bit sketchy? and yeah, she HAD a brother and her parents in her family. that team she works for shot all three of them down when June screwed up her job one time." he said
I couldn't believe anything that came out of Caleb's mouth that very specific day.
"oh crap!! I'll be late for my Uni. see you later ,Rick. Think about whatever I told you today" he said while waving at me while I just stood there. totally blank, not even one thought in my mind. I thought of taking a day off my job and just think this through.
