"Where's that boyfriend of yours?" Travis asked. We ended up sitting on the sidewalk, watching cars go by and looking up at the clouds, picking out shapes and animals within them.

"Dunno," I shrugged, "probably getting drunk at a bar."

"That's how he handles his problems?" Travis raised an eyebrow.

"If by problems you mean me, then yes." I laughed lightly, even though it stung. Calum always seemed to rely heavily on alcohol when it came to me.

"You don't seem like you'd be a problem. I bet you're a good girlfriend." Travis smiled softly. He's really good at making people feel better.

"Thanks, Travis. But in reality, I'm probably a pretty shitty girlfriend." I laughed.

"I completely disagree with that." he shook his head.

"No, it's true. Like, Calum planned this whole trip because when we were thirteen I told him I wanted to come to LA. And what do I do to pay him back? I start a fight." I sighed.

"You didn't start the fight. He just seems protective, is all. I would be too if you were my girlfriend." he chuckled. I laughed at his comment, but I thought it was really really sweet.

"Calum was totally wrong about you, Travis. You're a really great guy." I smiled.

"Thanks, I try." he grinned. My phone buzzed in my back pocket, again, so I pulled it out. I was about to decline Calum's call, when Travis's voice stopped me. "Here, let me answer it."

I handed him my phone. I mean, screw it. Calum's gonna be pissed enough as it is, so I honestly didn't give a fuck.

"Hello?" Travis answered in a really high pitched voice. He even put it on speaker. But Calum didn't even notice that it wasn't my voice.

"Baby, thank God. I was fucking worried, I went back to the hotel, but you weren't there. Where are you? I've been looking you for almost an hour." Calum's voice sounded strained and upset, like he had been crying.

"You done fucked up, bro." Travis smirked into the phone. I didn't know how to react or feel to that; I knew Travis was just trying to support me, but I didn't like the fact that he was making Calum feel like shit in the process.

"Who the hell is that?" Calum growled angrily. I took a deep breath and thanked the Lord that Calum couldn't punch Travis at the moment.

I decided to take over the conversation before Calum got really pissed. I took my phone from Travis and then took a deep breath, preparing for Calum to yell at me.

"Calum, go back to the hotel. Don't worry about me, I'm a big girl." I spoke, my voice even.

"No, you get your ass back to the hotel! Right now, Jade." he shouted. He sounded irritated overall. As if all of this was my fault.

"My independence is very important to me, Calum. And not you or anyone can take it away from me. I'll see you in the morning or something, I love you."

I hung up.

And turned my phone off.

I thought Calum's behavior was completely unnecessary; I understand that he cares about me and I'm so thankful for that, but I just wish that he would trust that I can take care of myself when it comes to guys. I don't need him over my shoulder the whole time.

"You know what you need?" Travis broke the silence after a while.

"What?"

"You need to get your mind off of this guy." Travis mumbled and stood up. He held out his hand for me to grab, and he pulled me up next to him.

"What do you have in mind?" I asked.

"A party, Jade. A real party."

>>>>

Turns out Travis is in college. What college, I'm not sure. All I did know was that when we skateboarded up to the frat house, (yes, I rode with him on his skateboard. Sue me.), people and beer were everywhere.

"A frat party?" I questioned. Travis raised an eyebrow up at me in response.

"Duh. Things get crazy as fuck at these things. Now cmon, we're missing all the fun!" he grinned and took my hand, pulling me up toward the house.

And Travis was totally right. I did need something that would get my mind off of Calum, and this was just the thing to do it. Travis led me into the kitchen, but when I reached for a beer, Travis hit my hand back.

"Those things are spiked, are you nuts?" he looked at me like I was stupid.

"Apparently." I laughed lightly. He scoffed and then turned around to one of the cabinets. He opened it and reached inside, digging around a bit for whatever he was looking for. Finally he did, and pulled out two cans of unopened beer.

"Here." he chuckled.

I popped it open and allowed the terrible cheap alcohol to flood down my throat. Travis took a huge sip as well, then smirked.

"How does it taste?" he asked.

"Awful." I laughed. He threw his head back in laughter, and pretty soon, both of us were cracking up. In that split moment I actually forgot about the burden of my fight with Calum, and all the other battles I will have to face soon. All it was right now was Travis and I at a frat party in LA, drinking cheap beer and laughing like idiots.

"Yo, Trav!" some dude came out of the cloud of people and patted Travis on the back.

"Hey,Eddie. This is Jade." Travis introduced us politely. Eddie smiled sweetly at me and offered me his hand.

I'm officially in love with LA boys.

All the Sydney boys always hit on you and offer you to dance or take shots, but these guys are polite and completely laid back. Do I have to leave LA?

"Nice to meet you, Jade. How do you know Travis?" Eddie asked.

"We met today at the beach." I nodded.

"Whoa, Australian, nice." Eddie observed with a smirk. I smiled widely at the fact that he actually got my accent right. Some people back in New York thought I was from England.

"Thanks." I chuckled.

"Dude, they're playing beer-pong over there. Cmon lets play! Jade, you in?" Travis asked with the raise of his eyebrow. I checked my phone.

11:39 and twenty six texts from Calum.

"Hell yeah." I scoffed. Travis grinned and took my hand, dragging Eddie and I behind him.
