I keep thinking about how I might be able to change the world and I Don't have any answers and I'm sure there are so many but I think the best answer I have right now is that I could take a child into nature and show them the way every inch of it is tied at the ends to the other pieces all supporting each other around it to show them how their feet are tangled here too if you let yourself see it and to meet even the smallest creature deeply enough and to let their eyes fill with wonder I keep watching children greet animals with curiosity - with equality not dominance - I wonder when this sets in, when greed sets in, but I think if I could let children find a wonder they would remember it would spark a flame in their hearts that they felt something once deeper than they ever could now with eyes that measure and extract and on their darkest days they would see this flame and they would have a better compass and they could go out and find it again I think kindness is unlearned it is not taught we are born with it so to keep it alive in the next generation is the best we can do because the true mark of character is how they treat someone who can do nothing for them I want to step outside of instrumentality and step into a love that radiates without condition to step out of a gaze that turns the world and its inhabitants to resources and into a gaze that is filled with only respect because from the time we are born we are shown all their is to own but not all there is to wonder at
