Chapter 6

Matthews POV

I looked through my closet looking
For something to were. I settled on a pair of dark jean,a black hoodie, and dark green jacket.This will do ok now lets me check if I have everything flash light, phone, watch lets see what else do I need. Hmm I know it a small forest but still I wonder if their lived some dangerous animals their or worse some psychopath killer. Better take fang just in case.I grabbed the shoe box that was under my bead and took out the small knife, with its leather sheath, inside. It looked like an average knife except for the wood hilt were a swirls design, that resampled plant, was carved out. I left the small wooden carving of a dog that my father made me in the box. Looking at it made me remember of the words my dad told me before we left.

flash back:' "Listen champ you gotta stay strong for me ok I need you to go with your mom can you do that for me?' He asked and kisses me on the head "but I don't wanna go dad." I said tears running down my face I didn't want to leave here if dad wasn't going with us. "I know Matt, but I need you too be a good boy ok and go with your mom. I'll be fine but I want to give you something, here take this to remember me and it will be protect you just like I would if I was there with you but I want you to promise me you'll be brave and use it if your ever in grave danger promise." Dad said handing me his hunting knife "I promise" I said hugging him hopefully if I don't let go I wont have to leave'

I hid the, never used , knife in my jacket pocket. "Bye mom im going over to Alex's and Max's house" I said "really thats grate have fun sweetie. Say hi to Mis.Jones for me" she said obviously exited that I decided to go out instead of being cooped up in my room. I walked to their house which thankfully wasn't vary far and knocked on the door. "Hey you made it dude grate" max greeted me and let me in. "Yah, so are you guys sure this is a good idea?" I asked "If and thats a big IF. everything goes as planned our mom should come back from work around ten a clock. And don't worry Dads away on business. So other then that all we need to do is make sure we stay hidden " Alex said. "That means we have a good three hours opening to get in and out but still the mansions far and we need to be careful so everyone sienchranise your watches" Max said and we all did just that. I noticed both siblings were wearing dark clothing but max had on a mask that covered his mouth how odd. "Bro stop this isn't a video game" Alex said "pshh says you this is like one of those scary horror game that once you play you see its only kinda of scary. I mean we're going into the forest and everything" Max said. "What the hell type of creepy games do you pay" I said the fact that he considered this kind of scary wasn't comforting. "You don't wanna know anyways back to the plan how exactly are we getting there anyways" Alex asked. "Nathan said he'd get us a ride from his brother so lets hope he managed to convince him" Max said. Suddenly we here a loud car horn from outside "thats him" Max said. we all rushed outside were a red truck was parked on the curve. "Sweet ride huh am I right guys. come on hope in" Nathan said from the front seat next to him in the drivers seat was a boy who had similar features as him who was probably his brother. Somehow I ended up in the back middle sandwiched between Max and Alex. We drove for a wile passing all the house until we got to the outskirts of town that was nothing but trees. "So you freshies gunna go out to the evergreen forest you guys do know its restricted right." What boy driving said made me worry but its too late to turn back now. "Yah man why do you think we're going its the ultimate test of courage" I scoffed yha because braking into an abandoned house required such bravery. The truck came to a sudden halt "whatever just scram I got a party to get to" he ordered and we all got off "hey you're picking us up right." Nathan asked but his brother already drove off by then "fucking asshole!" He said. "Grate ride you got us Nathan" Alex said sarcastically "let's just get going hopefully were fast enough that we can walk back home" Max said as he opened a duffel bag and took out two flash lights "here sis hey Nathan matt you guyed need one? Max asked "no i got one" Nathan and I both said then max took out a bat "dude really why the hell did you bring a bat?!" Nathan asked. "The real question is why did nobody else bring a weapon. Guys who knows what kind of psychos or monsters could be lurking around here" Max said. "Oh please dude if anyone even tried to mess with me id kick the living daylight out of them with my bear hands" Nathan said smugly. "And I've got Nathan to push in front of a wild bare or killer wile I run" Alex said chuckling. "Ive got a hunting knife just in case" I said timidly holding my dads knife everyone turned to me wide eyed. "Huh didn't peg you to be the weapon type" Max said I rolled my eyes no one ever dose. Not that I was a fanatic or anything dad just thought me a lot. Back home he loved to hunt. I'm sure he hoped id be the same but I never could stomach seeing any animal injured much less dead. We all turned on our flash lights and started to head down a dark path were nothing but Trees surrounded. the sounds of our foot steps and rustling of leaves were the only thing that were heard. Our flash had only a dim glow in comparison to the darkness that surrounded us. We all walked in silence. Soon we found a stone path way that sure enough lead to huge mansion. I gasped whene I saw the house looked amazing. The white walls were decorated with a beautiful design along the arch entrance. The walls of the 2 story house extended and ran in both direction And were decorated with antique iron windows all over. On top of the huge house lay a intricate blue tiled roof. This whole house was so big it could easily fit our entire school. So why would only one man want to live here? "Man this place gives me the creeps" Nathan said "crap locked" we all turned to see max in front of the door. "Well there's only one way to get in" Nathan said then the idiot grabbed Max's bad and was about to swing it at a window We all ran to stop him, thankfully Max managed to take the bat from him. "orrr we can do this. Sis you have a hair clip I could borrow?" He asked "yha here" Alex said.Max managed to unlock the door with the clip were did he even learn that anyways? never mind not gunna ask. "Phase one compleat now its all up to you Matt your ready" Max asked I nodded. "Well be out here hidden waiting for you and remember grab something before you get out" Nathan said then Alex wished me good luck . Holding my flashlight steady I opened the door and stepped inside. I heard the door slam shut witch made me jump must've bin Nathan trying to scare me jerk. I looked around the house was pitch black I walked carefully trying not to trip. I looked around and flashlight light reveled a couch so that room was probably the living room and passed that was a flight of stairs. I walked up to the second floor were their were two hallway that stretched both left and right. I walk down the hall there were so many rooms. I keep walking it seemed like the hall way would never end but eventually the narrow hallway became wide and their was door at the end. It was different from the rest of the door i wonder whats inside? Carefully I opened the door and slipped inside. Were there was a desk in the far end of the room and bookshelves that covered most of the wall. By the way Nathan talked about the man who use to live here I expect there to be multiple science books but their were very few. Most books were famous literature such as Othello and Julius Caesar. Their were also books about history, myths, and even astrology. The desk was over flowing with papers but in the very middle was a journal with a leather cover. I opened the latch and the first page had a heading in cursive

Huh weird he had the same last name as me talk about coincidence. I looked through a few pages. The Parchment was filled with ink drawing and writing of beautiful flowers and animals that was faded. Ok so he was a scientist but he was far from mad the rumors were way off.

Suddenly I heard foot steps and my heart nearly jumped out of my chest. I thought no one was supposed to live here. Did the the front door even open? oh no that means its not Alex, Max or Nathan then who is it. Thump thump the foot steps got louder and louder. I ducked under the large desk. Oh God please don't let them find me. The foot steps stopped then I heard a door creak as it opened.
