The quickened pace of Moon's heart didn't help her predicament. She wanted to run but it was as if someone had welded her feet to the snow covered earth beneath her. She stood, frozen in place, trembling but not due to the cold wind that passed over her red fur.
Did she-
-Oh yes she did
Of course the freak would.
An endless bombardment of people speaking bounced inside of Moon's skull courtesy of the telepathic link of the pack. She left out a whimper as the alpha, Jacob turned to her as well as the rest of the small cluster in the middle of the two warring sides. She panted heavily her warm breath bellowing in puffs of white. Her eyes darted from side to trying to find an easier escape route for herself.
Moon.
Moon looked back at Seth, her closest friend and the only one that welcomed her into Jacobs pack with open arms. She let out a whimper as she flattened her ears against her head backing up as he approached.
Moon, everything will be ok, Seth's voice reassured as he grew near.
Only Moon didn't care in that moment. She just wanted to disappear. She shook her head as she kept backing away before darting away into the thick woods.
Seth looked back once at Jacob. I'll get her, was all he said as he rushed off to bring back the den mother of the Black pack.
"For those of us who don't speak wolf," Demetri asked, his tone laced with sarcasm, "what just happened?"
"Moon imprinted," Edward answered, causing more confusion to the already confusing problem, "shes the first female shifter to imprint."
Demetri rolled his eyes and waved a gloved hand in impatience. "Meaning....?"
Edward was about to respond when Marcus's tired voice rang out. "She is your mate my young friend," Marcus stated, his full eyes focused onto Demetri's visage.
Now it was Demetri's turn to panic. He could hear the low laughter and snickers of those in the guard. Leave it to the tracker to have a literal dog as his soulmate.
As quickly as the trial had started it was ended seeing that no battle would commence in fear of hurting Moons imprint. The Cullens made their way back to their dwelling saying their farewells to those who came to aide their family. The Volturi stayed by, by order of Aro no doubt, so that Demetri could meet his mate.
The sun was setting into twilight, Jacob and Leah both waited by the back doors hoping to see Moon and Seth approach the house.
"What could be taking Seth this long?" Jacob asked while crossing his arms, "They should've been back by now."
Leah sighed, "You know how nerve wrecking imprinting is. Moon is terrified right now, she's the only who in our history to imprint of a bloodsucker."
"I am right here you know," Demetri growled.
Leah turned her head to look at the tracker, annoyance written in bold across her face. "Shouldn't you be off somewhere sparkling away? Or crawling into your coffin?"
Demetri, in his anger, stood as the glass door opened revealing a cheerful Seth and a smaller scared companion. Demetri paused for a moment, analyzing the woman's looks. She was a sight for sore eyes. Her hair was black and fell just below her shoulders, she wore a floral blouse that was peach in color and blue jeans that lead to black Nike's. She refused to look up at anyone, anxiously picking at her nail polish.
Moon could feel the weight of someone staring at her and couldn't help but look up. As she did their eyes locking for only the briefest of moments. Beautiful honey brown with the smallest flakes of gold in them managed to take Demetri's breath away.
Moon was the first to break eye contact, her nerves getting the best of her already. She had promised Seth to come back to meet her imprint but everything in her told her to run and never come back. She was only one of three girls in the tribe to shift and compared to her fellow shifters, she was a freak. She was smaller than the average shifter, almost resembling a normal wolfs height. She wasn't as strong nor as fast as the others in either pack but she did have her compassion and a mother hen nature that was only amplified by her newfound abilities.
She was better adjusted to welcoming those who were new to shifting, acting as sort of a mother figure to the members earning her the nickname 'Mom' by all in the pack. She looked after the younger kids, seeing that the youngest was only 11, while the rest of the pack went on patrols and chased away potential dangers to Forks and the tribe.
"Sooooo," Emmett drawled out breaking the silence, "Are y'all going to say something to each other or are we going to stand around waiting for rapture?"
Demetri cleared his throat and stuck out a hand. "I'm Demetri Volturi."
Moon gave a nod. "I'm Moon Ateara."
Demetri pulled back his unshook hand before gesturing in the way of Dr. Cullens private study. "Would you like to talk in private?" He asked.
"If you would like to...."
".....ok...."
"Ok."
Felix sighed in defeated as the two just stood in place. "This is awkward," he sighed once more.
Jane and Alec both elbowed Felix's side as the newly found mates crept towards the study in awkward silence.
"Give them some time," Alec argued, "soon enough they'll become something great."
Jane nodded, "You know you're encounter with Corin was far from ideal. You screamed mate and threw her over your shoulder Felix."
"After standing by her side for a complete and silent five minutes," Caius added.
Felix smacked his lips and looked out the window staring into the abyss of black forested area that surrounded the Cullen house. He mumbled something along the lines of how he didn't just stand by Corin's side in silence but quickly dropped the topic.
Seth clapped his hands together startling Nessie. "So what's for dinner? I'm starving!"
Leah closed her eyes and sighed. Leave it to her brother to worry about food in a time like this.
