Lexa POV

It was the afternoon. Clarke and Lexa were sitting at a table playing chess. Clarke kept kicking her ass and ending the games within ten minutes. She was frustrated at this point but not willing to give up.

She moved her pawn forward. Clarke quickly picked up her Queen and placed it in line with her King. It was a checkmate. Lexa groaned and started to set up the pieces again. She was going to win one even if they had to sit there until midnight. Clarke turned the board around so now Lexa's was white and Clarke was black.

"This is the game." Lexa said, even though that's what she said for the past three games. Clarke laughed softly and nodded. "Don't doubt me and don't let me win because you feel bad."

"I won't. Now take your move." Clarke told her. She moved her pawn forward. "Stop going for the Queen's gambit. I'm not gonna take it." Lexa looked at Clarke confused.

"What the hell is that?" Lexa asked. She had heard of it before, probably from when she played with the Commanders but had no clue what it was.

"I think I taught you it before." Lexa shrugged. Clarke took her move as she heard laughter behind her. She turned around and saw Madi and Taylor coming over. Madi was pulling her by the hand. "Oooo, you think they kissed yet?"

"Not so loud!" Lexa whispered, kicking her under the table. "Madi has amazing hearing." She took her turn by moving her knight.

"Is Clarke destroying you?" Madi asked, walking over.

"Nope." Lexa said.

"She hasn't won a single one." Clarke said.

"No! Those were all practice rounds. This one is the real one."

"You should like Madi." Taylor said. Clarke laughed as Madi's jaw dropped. "Don't even deny it. You said that not even an hour ago."

"Also why is Octavia carrying rope, knives, and other things that most normal people won't be holding?" Madi asked. They both choked.

"You know, maybe we should have thought this through. I will be right back." Clarke said, getting up. "Someone take over for me. I have to keep my winning streak going."

"It was all practice before this!" Lexa called.

"Shut up, no it wasn't!" Clarke called back, walking away.

"Whose turn?" Madi asked, sitting down in Clarke's spot. "Mine?" Lexa nodded. Madi picked up a pawn but Taylor stopped her. Taylor moved a different pawn forward.

"Cheaters. You have two people playing." Lexa said.

"And you are an adult." Madi said.

"Okay and?" Lexa moved her knight to take the pawn.

"We get the kid advantage." Taylor said.

"That's not a thing." Lexa protested, as Madi took her move.

"Yes it is!" Madi said.

"Well I say it's not." Lexa said, looking at the board. "And I am the Commander."

"Well Clarke would say it is a thing and she is Hedatu."

"Well Clarke's not here."

"Well you are just scared you are gonna lose to kids." Madi told her.

"Well, I'm not."

"We should stop saying 'well'." Taylor said. Lexa made her move by moving her Queen. Taylor moved her rook.

"I want the Commander's advantage then." Lexa said, moving her bishop.

"You have one already. You know strategy, you fight real wars and stuff." Madi said, moving her rook again. "And checkmate." Lexa cursed in trig under her breath.
