Maverick...
I was super excited! I had it a all planned out, I just hope that my plans would help move us in the right direction. My mind went back to the dinner I had with my parents last night." Dad can I use the Cessna tomorrow."
"You want to log some hours, it's been a few weeks since you've been up. Sure, I'll call the hanger and set it up, where are you going."
"Well I'd planned to head to DC for the day and then come back here, is that cool."
Looking at Mel Im daring her to out my business. After my father agreed I began making my plans mentally.
My father, Mel and I all love flying, my mom not so much. Before the market crashed we had 1/3 ownership of a Leer Jet, but there was no way we could maintain such an extravagant item, so my father sold his stake of the jet. Once we got back on our feet my father decided to take lesson, and shortly after my father got his pilots license, Mel and I started on ours.
I received my license within a year login flight hours and passing the flight and written test. Mel is short of her license by 15 hours. State regulations of 40 log hours as a minimal to be license but my father mandated that we each log 100 hours before he would allow us to fly on our own.
I can remember flying with my father all around the country going to various business meetings, golf tournaments, and charity events. The plane that we own is a single engine Cessna 187, it seats up to 4 but could do five if minimal luggage. The cost of the Cessna and the rental of the jet was around the same price, but the Cessna was a better tax right off so my father bought the plane for a little under $400k.
I really like Janell and I want to get to know her, and the trip to DC isn't to show off, but if it gave me extra points I'd take it. Pulling up to the small air hanger the surprise was written all over Janelles face. Parking the car I got out and went to her side to open the door, seeing her not move caused me to pause and my heart to drop. I could see the hesitation on her face and I thought, maybe this wasn't a good idea.
Janell...
I had no idea why Maverick brought us to a plane hanger, but once he got out of the car I knew that something was going on. I was in shock I couldn't move, were we flying somewhere. He gently coaxed me out of the car telling me that he had planned a great day for us.I had never been on a private plane and I was getting excited listening to Maverick talk about his surprise. We went into the building and he talked to someone who said that the plane was fueled, checked and ready to go. We had to wait a few minutes while he filed his flight plan. I was texting when I heard, Washington DC, Reagan Airport, 8 hours, refueling, direct flight, east winds, 1500 feet etc it all seemed so overwhelming that I tuned out.
Walking out towards the plane I wondered where the pilot was. Once we made it to the small plane and we started to board and I saw Maverick get into the pilot seat my heart began to race almost as if it was about to come out of my chest. Grabbing his arm I was yelling at him, yeah I'm pretty sure I was a yelling trying to formulate words and thoughts.
"What on earth are you doing, are you really going to fly this thing, I mean, do you even know how? How long have you been flying, and are you good at? I don't want to die, I want to get married, and have kids, graduate collage, go to Paris, have a relationship for once, I want to...
Leaning in he kisses me, right on the lips, whatever I was about to say never came out I was DONE! Leaning back into the seat I looked at him concern all over my face, my palms were sweaty and I was scared out of my mind.
